MTNBYKR 188 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 If ya wanna be a better rider, ride a rev.If ya can ride already, ride an F7. I always love OT's posts... Straight and to the point. No BS... The F7 sounds like the perfect sled for me... Oh, except for the fact that it's not a Ski-Doo... LOL...
Bilbo 85 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Good come back Richard. OK, so I've put together the pros and cons of the mighty F7. Pros.. It's very fast, styled very well , it fits in with all the other cats Pub parking lot. Cons.. Exhaust manifolds break, have to loctite EVERYTHING so it does not vibrate itself to pieces. It's like a Pi$$ed off bronco that is waiting to throw its rider , very thirsty for gas. Don't even think of touching that brake in the corner or it'll kill you, it will push a overconfident rider to his demise in a second.Have I missed anything? I guess this explains somewhat why so many of these sleds are in my lane on any given corner . Is it the rider or the sled at fault?
Mainecat 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Always let the sled warm up so sno melts on both running board sides. Then go easy on the throttle for the first few miles. Cold seizing is the #1 reason the 700 Cat twin went down. I never had a problem with my 03 and sold it with 5500 miles on it.
Oldtimer 5 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 The manifold doesn't break, the pipe cracks, thin.It does want loctite. A 140HP twin Suki demands it.It's like a thoroughbred horse, happiest when running full tilt.It loves gas. But it can return 14-15 MPG if you want it to. I averaged 10 up north running 45-70 MPH steady. The brake is for the straights. Just the way it is on this thing.Overconfidence kills no matter what ya ride.Anyone can tell you it's almost always a Rev that's sideways in your lane on a corner, goes back to that overconfidence thing. No Way, Revs don't corner sideways they'll tip over too easy. It's the Rev that eats up the Moguls created by those trail trenching death defying Cat riders. Amen Richard,For the record My pipe is not cracked after 5000+miles,Some did some did'nt,It's always good to check,It seems the ones that did,Did it in the first year or two, Also the front cross member that holds the front shock on the rear skid is prone to egging out keep it tight Locktite! Not much out there has passed me on the lake,But then again there are not alot of true 100+mph sleds out there that you would feel comfortable riding at speed. My old triple polaris would hit triple digits but it was not much fun.It amazes me that people out there still bag on and quietly envy a sled that is coming up on its 10 birthday. How many 03 rev owners are still in love with their sled????

gunmaker 29 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 This is why i love this site. 2 pages of input . That is what i was looking for. The RX you really have to stay awake on in the woods. I find myself riding it like i did 3 wheelers out in Calif MANY years ago. Sliding on the seat from one side to the other. Looking ahead to the next turn. It's a great sled, but when it's just the boy and i, and if it goes off trail we are not getting it out. When we went to the very top of MT K, the tower, his had no problems going p it. I was worried mine wasn't going to make it. That's just not right. Again thanks for all the input. Oh and Gator, one with one or the other, where we riding this weekend? Catman16 2 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 I owned 2 F-7's. One was an 03 Sno Pro and the other was an 04 Nightfire. I put over 4500 miles on both sleds w/ very few issues. I put Powder Pros on both sleds w/ 7.5" Shaper bars and handling was greatly improved w/ this set up. Also had 4th wheel kits on both. They come through oil rich but if you know how to adjust the oil, they use considerable less oil without issues. As mentioned let them warm up completely before becoming throttle happy. They are very fast w/ my 03 having a little more top end. They do require rider input but that adds to the fun. I consistantly got 12-14 miles per gallon w/ both sleds. Looking back they were fun but you knew you were on them after a 200 mile ride. Having gone to rider forward, I would never go back - but I am alot older now. dualmass 2 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Never owned a F7, but i have heard alot of good things about them, and if you ride any sled hard they'll need work

snorander 216 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 "Sliding on the seat from one side to the other. Looking ahead to the next turn."isn't this how everybody rides? I know I do, oh wait my sled is 16 years old so that's the only way to ride it!
gunmaker 29 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 Snorander, some people don't look at all. That's why they are sideways when they finally see you.
Nellys Nest 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2011 I had an 04 F-7 I bought it brand new. I kept it for 5000 miles. I beat the hell out of it for every mile I rode it. I sold it to a buddy though he didn't ride it as hard he kept it to 8500 miles and sold and it was still running strong,it lost a little off the top end but would still get to 100 mph all day long. It's hands down the fastest stock sled I ever rode. I've since been spoiled by riding Ski-Doo I feel there the best handling sled with the best power to weight ratio. I'ld have a hard time going back to Cat though I have thought about the AC Hillclimb racer.
gunmaker 29 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 I have had alot of offers. I'm going to look at one over in Franklin. Has about 3900 miles. Alot have 6-7000 miles some with top end down by owner. Had a friend look at the one in Franklin last night and will get a report today. So looks like i will be riding in that area this weekend. I can transfer my reg to another sled is what it says on the back of the reg.
Pantera99 0 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 Yes... You can transfer the Reg... small cost I think, $5-$10? hey , what happened with the 03'F7 in Bradford,Vt.?

Bilbo 85 Report post Posted February 5, 2011 I ran into a old friend today who has had a 03 F7 since new. He's had very good luck with about 9000 miles on it, spent a lot of time getting the setup dialed in .
