It's not an issue of cold, the problem occurs when the camera is left inside and turned off .It appears that some internal function is consuming electricity as long as the batteries are installed.

I have an older Canon Powershot S95 point and shoot that I use as a pocket camera. Never had any issues with the battery draining when not in use.

This post is somewhat related to the random photo thread. How many people here are still shooting pictures using "real" film? While I use a digital point-and-shoot camera while out on the sled, I also use a Canon AE1 with a Vivitar zoom. 35mm film is still easy to get, but film developers are getting scarce, and when you do find one they usually offer digital output rather than prints. I'm giving The Dark Room online site a shot, what do any of the film dinosaurs here use?

I haven't shot film in a long time. Used to love my 35mm back in the day, but don't have any desire to go back to film.

Nice shot...don't you wish there was snow up to the lower branches of the fruit trees? Looks like we might be getting into a little better snow pattern.

Well, I'm of mixed opinions on that matter. In very heavy snow winters the rodents end up eating the buds and the bark from the limbs, at least the buds and the bark that haven't already been stripped off by the deer. I don't think I'd make it as an apple farmer.

On a positive note, yes, I do intend to get out on local trails as soon as possible. Looks like a snowy weekend.

It was a Winter Wonderland in the GNW last week.

Very active Dee-ya Yhaaad behind the Pittsburg school - always plenty of critters to see.

Sorry, no picture with this post. It's a case of "the one that got away."

Last night a thunderstorm storm passed through around 8:00pm and dumped .65" of rain in about a half-hour, and the lightning was fairly strong too. Really nothing too special, but as the storm passed the sun was still visible in the western sky shining through an opening in the clouds. The clouds around that opening turned a brilliant blue-purple color that I haven't seen before. I ran for my camera, but by the time I was ready to take the picture, the picture was gone, replaced with a standard  'nice-enough" pink/blue cloud image. I'd say the blue-purple image lasted only a minute or two. Timing is everything.

Did anybody else see this image, and more importantly, did you get the picture?

Here's a pic I took yesterday afternoon out my kitchen window of a double rainbow terminating over my cabin. Also managed to get a shot of the other end of it over my driveway. Only good thing about this latest "monsoon" season.

Can you give a location for this photo? It seems similar to an area we traveled in the Portneuf (Trail 13?) several years ago, where the trail followed above the river.

The only thing that could improve that picture is if you photo-shopped in an approaching blizzard!

Photo taken March 23. 2015 from Baker River Valley trail. Plenty of snow, trails in good shape, beautiful day. It doesn't get much better than that. Hoping for a few days like this in the upcoming season. The groomer operator was taking his lunch break. Is that Mount Mansfield in the second picture?
