With the increase in registration costs, how many have already registered

Along with that who among us are not registering all their sleds this year.

Registered two sleds back in August....   I like to average out the cost over a longer duration...

Yes, I have ridden both sleds on the trail system...

I will register one or both  when it's time to ride them. Any travel restrictions around Covid will change my plans before the price increase does. Joined my club back in September, that part is out of the way.

I registered 3 in NH and have 1 registered in Maine,  member of 3 or 4 clubs.  Bring on the snow!

Registered two in NH in November and joined two NH clubs. Will be registering both in Maine as well when the snow flies and still deciding which southern Maine club to join.

Quite frankly if you can’t support the meager registration fees and join/support the clubs where you ride, you need to find a different sport....IMHO

I join my clubs in NH & Maine back in October. Registered my sled in NH & Maine the first week of December. My wife’s sled was only ridden once two years ago and she didn’t ride last year. If she doesn’t ride this year we will probably sell it. It is not registered this year until she tells me she is going to ride. I have been riding since 1972 and she started riding in 1986.

I've registered my sleds and joined my clubs.

It would be interesting to know how many sleds have been registered, and the number of NHSA members, to this date. Funds from club memberships and sled registrations pay the bills for the trail system. Anybody seen any numbers from BoT/F&G or NHSA?

Not yet. 

They may put out the number for before January 1st (early season) in the next few weeks, but the NHSA should have their numbers easily accessible in the data base.

The registration numbers, at least through the traditional part of the system, have to come from the various registration stations and into F&G, so they get delayed.

I just mailed off two vintage registration applications to Concord, for my principal vintage rider ( 73 Rupp Nitro 440) and a backup sled (90 Arctic Cat Prowler 440) these carried lifetime app fees of $129. each (up from $50. each). Happy to do it, looking forward to whatever riding will be possible, and worried about the future of people holding back feeding the mechanism that makes it all possible. Lot's of 0's in the pipeline of people that are necessary that have to come from somewhere to keep it going. Same with clubs and what keeps them going while too many people are sitting on the fence waiting for the "perfect storm" to enable them the "perfect ride".   Think about the future of the sport, for what doesn't enter the "piggie bank" this year will affect the system next year....

The Union Leader/Sunday News ran a story today about NH snowmobiling. In that story, they gave a registration count as of February 24, 2021. 45,800 sleds were registered, compared with 40,079 a year ago. 29,078 were by residents and 16,722 were non-residents. So, an increase of 5,721 over last year. The non-residents made up about 37% of registrations.

The story discussed the high number of accidents involving inexperienced operators and that there was a requirement for a training program for all operators in a transportation bill being considered. Waters will pull that part of the bill.

He is trying to get ahead of the decades old argument about what the problems are for the motorized trail groups.

I've seen everything from they claiming that its the kids... so they want to ban operation for anyone either under 16 or 18 - highest I have seen is 21.

To the claim that it is non-residents that act like they own the place... which of course leads to talk of banning non-resident registrations.

I don't expect either to go very far... especially since the next registration increase in the statute is for resident to increase more than non-resident.

 

So they come up with if we only had everyone safety trained... no one would break the rules.

It isn't going to work... they know the rules and how to ride. They get distracted, we all have at one time or another, and ignore the rules because the expectation of being caught and actually suffering a loss is very low.

Parade Road is full of fields that have been heavily signed by the local club. Even with stakes every 50 feet apart and designating a corridor... they ride all over the field.

Other fields nearby... the landowners have done so much as to put up chains with signs.

After that, they will just keep calling F&G and complaining to their state representatives that their property rights are being violated.
