After reading some of the comments I am really hoping the fine gets increased to the proposed $248. $74 is a joke and some of those twits posting even laughed at it, lets see them laugh next year!

I also saw comments with suggestions that the people who want to ride off trail get together, define the places (if there are any) where it is permitted, and share the info. That would take pressure off trail closings because people ride where they shouldn't*

*Assuming the dummies in the group ride where it's legal, instead of wherever they want. :banghead:

By law, they would still need to each carry written landowner permission in their name.

But it isn't only in that location... many times it using the side of the road/highway... or just riding on an official trail that is not open.

The thing I hear the most "we are not harming anything, why won't the landowner ride all over the place"....blah blah blah. What they don't understand is that it is not their land, therefore they can't do whatever the F they want. I say raise the fine even higher. Keep raising it until it stops. Up in the back woods in logging country, these clowns have no idea the damage they are doing to the saplings that the paper companies plant.

Another idea  i  have seen is a big sign, Warning stay on trail, field has exposed rock and  LARGE stumps and sink holes. Please stay on trail for your safety.

Anyone know the ticket cost for loud modified exhaust?

Currently the fine for exhaust exceeding the set decibal limit is $75

Mini Bikes would be considered trail bikes (dirt bikes)...

They would need to be registered to ride on the ice unless they were operated by someone under 12 and met the restricted engine displacement requirement.

It's something how we not only have people riding off trail where they don't belong.  The manufacturers have been perfecting sleds that cater to these morons. Twelve feet of paddle track and 150+ hp. Not to mention F&G having to spend resources rescuing these folks when they created there own maze. There is really nothing good that comes of this nonsense.

The manufacturers produce product for a wide range of markets. It is up to the State Legislature to create a framework of enforcement for the policy decisions that they make. So increasing the fines should curtail some of the purchase of machines exceed the criteria used in NH.

For instance, I can purchase and register a supercar... but I wouldn't have any place, other than a leased track, to operate it beyond first gear.

I’m not a mountain rider, but I thought I had read in recent past that NH was trying to create areas for mountain sledders to ride

I suggested some off trail riding areas over 10 years ago when MTN sleds starting becoming popular in the NorthEast since I lived in Oregon prior to that.  Even out in OR or WA, you cannot just ride anywhere you have to stay in the designated areas, however, biggest difference is there National forests are sooooooo much larger than ours they have more land to work with.

They keep sledders near sledders and Xcountry skiers/snowshoers in their areas so no conflicts between the "users"...I use to laugh cause one of the complaints from a non-sled user was I could hear the snow machines across the valley....what did they do the next?  They moved the sledders over the ridge to the next area and then no complaints.

Ride Right, Ride Safe, Ride On !

Tough topic to be objective on, having made my living for years out there touring people, sometimes off trail. The Companies that owned the land up here knew what I was doing and considered the level of off trail that I was involved in and actually would rather have someone who knows the area, "guide" people through it in relative safety. There are some favorites that we all have visited at one time or another, like Magalloway Mtn, Stubb Hill Pond, Rump Mtn. The list goes on, and people enjoyed being able to experience that country. Perhaps, something could be worked out to make it legit to access these more popular ones, and still save the "back country" from the madness that seems to be taking over with people looking to work out there 154" mountain sleds.

If it all has to be closed, so be it, but it will be a chapter of the North Country I will miss.........
