Recent Storm Damage up North!

Recommended Posts

I don't want to cry Wolf about the season that is almost upon us, but the level a trees down up North is alarming, when considering the amount of trails completely blocked in some areas. I consider myself lucky to have been without electricity and phone for almost a week, finally being restored by a crew from Chattanooga, Tenn. late Thursday night.  Phone was restored Saturday late in the day.  I noticed an e-mail from the Ridge Runners looking for people to share in the experience of a work party this Saturday to get at it, and open things up as much as possible. I am afraid as to what they will find when getting into the middle of it. Been up here fore over 20 years and never seen wind like this, taking down anything and everything with a shallow root system and snapping healthy trees half way up.

Curious to know what happened in the rest of the state.

Glad to hear that you got power back before it got too cold.

I does seem like there must be a tremendous amount of damage across the state. This site has been very quiet, I have wondered if it was because people have been busy cleaning up their own properties, and maybe because they don't have power.

It would be helpful to know who and where help is needed, particularly further south. I may be able to help some, but how to get connected seems to be a bit of a mystery for me down here in Mass. Pittsburg is out of range for a day for me, but farther south isn't.

I think I need to check a few club websites and maybe Facebook pages to figure out what could be done.

It would be nice if there was one clearinghouse that listed trail work parties that are looking for help, times and places, along with what to bring in terms of tools. I wish the NHSA website was that place, it just seems to make sense to me, but I don't think it's realistic to expect that organization to respond in this way.

I know most of the Rockingham county clubs will be out every weekend doing cleanup. Here is a pic from last Sunday, there were about a dozen or so pines down across the rail trail behind the grass drag fields. The wind must have been hauling across those fields.

We were helping the  Bridgewater club clear trails last weekend.  A neighboring club- Hardy Country, has major erosion/washout issues.  If you can stomach it, check out their pictures...https://www.facebook.com/hardycountrysnowmobileclub/

We have got some damage that may close Cor. 19 from Shelburne south unless we can get this bridge built as well as some other major washouts. I wish we just had trees down.
