Brush Cutting Blade mounted on your Mogul Master

Recommended Posts

Our club (SLSC) is thinking about mounting a brush cutting blade on our mogul master drags. I have seen them mounted toward the front of the drag and I have seen them mounted toward the rear, which is best and what are your thoughts.

We have ours mounted towards the front of the drag. Less likey to get stuck on the wrong side of a tree. The drag never following the groomer tracks around corners.

Ours is on the front. If you place a screen on top of the drag you can save the brush for waterbars when you need them. Make sure you have it hinged to fold in or a hydraulic cylinder to fold it in or you will break it fast!

We have ours mounted about 1/4 of the way back on the drag and we have it hinged with a hydraulic cylinder to fold it inward to avoid large tree limbs sticking into the trail. We also have a hinged brace that goes back to about the half-way mark on the drag. You need to make sure it is mounted securely since it puts a lot of strain on the drag. We have had to re-weld several joints that have broken apart due to the pressure and vibrations from this blade. Even with the brace, the top of the blade above the brace is now bent back slightly because of the pressure of cutting through the branches. We probably should add another brace that goes all the way to the top of the blade to keep it from bending back any further.

T1 does have the third set of hydraulics and would recommend utilizing them. IMO. Make it a whole lot easier on the operator to get around trees. May not be as much of an issue on the northern side, but probably more of an issue on the southern side if you plan on using it there also

The SLSC is now going to wait till next year to consider buying the brush blade. They want to see how the Ossipee club makes out with the one they are going to buy.
