Hey Thanks so MUCH everyone,,,,,  snowmobiling friends and friends from far and wide have been reaching out,,,, several came to lend a hand for a day or more,,, many well wishes from ALL OVER ,, my entire service building and offices , heating plant including my chip plant, water storage and booster pump,, fertilizer for this spring,,, this seasons seed packs for our customers,  just serviced our zero turn mower,,, all GONE ,,,, the gable on our greenhouse that was destroyed was 174' wide. It took 100% of all the heating equipment hung on that gable,, we lost our stand by generator,  all our tools, and I just put a $35,000 standing seam roof on the building last summer,,, we had just taken a delivery of a NEW gas boiler that wasn't installed yet, the wreckage list is surreal....

I have no choice other than to be POSITIVE,,,  the good in neighbors, friends, family, no one was hurt, the cat survived, MOST of my plants that were not burned will make it,,,,,,  INSURANCE?  grossly underinsured,

I hope my inspiration will inspire others,,,,, its all I really have always wanted in life,

I don't post much on this site but I'm going to chime in. There is a place for them to ride, Montana. Don't screw it up for the people that follow the rules and respect landowners.

Why should law followers and club volunteers have to find them places to ride? I know in the 70s the club's had to find it on there own. I spent a lot of my teenage years going out with club elders doing exactly that.

If my memory is serving me correctly there are some over 4000 LANDOWNERS that make up the NH 7000 mile system. Based on the "fragmentation of the land area of NH coupled to the distance and areas desired (for off trail) you can be assured  NH starts with limitations!  One other factor is that Maine  is 33,000 square miles Coos County is just under 1800  with the whole State of NH covering just Under 9000 miles, food for thought!

Then you are not paying attention to what is being stated. I had a lot of people in their early 20s on sleds... but they are now suffering the result of financial planning. It is very sad to find a 50-60 year old with retirement savings that will not suffice their retirement... to watch them sell the things they loved... and know that even after it is all gone, there will not be enough.
The numbers in the first post are nationwide. US registrations... not new or used sled sales... have fallen approximately 450,000. Canadian registrations... not new or used sled sales, but actual users... have fallen approximately 165,000. The average age of snowmobile owners has gone up 2 years... even with all those inexpensive used sled available to the younger generation. And the amount spend snowmobiling per capita has gone down from an estimated $4000 annually to $2000 annually.
Sales... new or used... is not the issue. Registrations falling, registrants being older, and what each registrant is spending annually... those are the issues.
Landowners that can no longer afford to hold large parcels... they need the money for retirement... that is an issue.
How did that happen? When they were young they didn't care about gross income. Now they are old... they are selling things to live off what income they can muster.
Since the median according to the stats is 45 years old... it probably weighs on them more than it does a 20 year old.
Polaris and Bombardier realized in their study that the days of the garage full of toys would result in the days of focus on one toy. What will that ''toy'' be in the end? I think it will vary... but it means the community of support will be lower.

I'm pretty sure when you go to a dealer and buy a mountain sled, the dealer isn't going to have a class on proper riding and landowner respect. They're going to take the money and hand over the sled, SO actually it DOES matter what the manufacturers push. Posters on the dealer walls of sleds side hilling and high marking. That's what you're SUPPOSED to do with the sled, so let's do it. If you're a 20 something making your first sled purchase, all you care about is the fun, not the consequence.

Steve its TOTALLY EASY to "argue the merits of camp Sno-Mo from the outside looking inward,,,  I could easily join you on this topic ,,,,, HOWEVER you may want to take the time this Saturday eve to go to the Andover Pasta Buffet  (at the Middle school)  and take a gander at the way in which everyone pulls together for a common goal,,,,,,, the meal easily fits YOUR budget/price range (jk-jk)   bring a 20 to buy some raffle tickets for a tons of prizes they have ,,,, REMEMBER to take a hard look at how this brings community together,,, and provides a imesureable service to families that have a child that couldn't do camp otherwise!!!!!! You missed Warners last Saturday, and Canterbury the Saturday before!   hope to see you there!!!!

It isn't necessary to buy a new sled when the time comes nor new gear to go with it,,,, but in regard to not being able to "afford" another registration increase I ask this,,,,,, can we just sit by and watch clubs close down? We are in the process of losing a few each year! Is it far that volunteers use their own resources to keep groomers running to make the trails we all enjoy? lots of the time groomers are plugged in to an electrical outlet  to keep batteries tended and engine blocks warm adding to volunteers electric bill on a month basis, A $54 increase IS two tanks of gas,,,,,,,,,,,,,, BUT it is also $2,000,000 into the STATEWIDE trails/grooming fund! Yes priorities have to determine what are hobbies are and no one leaves the spot that isn't missed,,  for me the RIDE is maybe 30% of the fun,,,,, the MEMORIES are the other 70%!   Lastly as I look at it, its ALWAYS been a rich mans sport, like boating, skiing, golf, bicycling  and going to the games or concerts or vacation!!! NOTHING is cheep!

could it be AT ALL POSSIBLE that much this guidance is the cumulative EFFORTS of the numerous meeting that took place between the NHSA executive committee and the AG’s office ,,,,, ummmmmmYES !!

Jeff you might want to be VERY careful of what bear your poking, because I'm getting really tired of your keyboard accusations!! The special meeting the directors went to concluded with leaving executive session and motions and votes being taken back in public session. Minutes were takes and and approved by the board, if you actually got out from behind your keyboard and attended our county meeting last night you'd have seen the minutes for your self!! Usually you're very good with the facts but this time you're way out of line, ask questions before you post misinformation!

Our membership is up....we see the money but never see the faces.  A problem all clubs have.
We need more snow so this forum will get back into sledding pictures, stories, how to get to here or there, etc.  That is what I enjoy....
Sick of the negative, negative, negative....get enough of that in the NEWS.  My glass is always 1/2 fullnot

I’m going to TRY to shed some prospective
so it’s been in the past nearly $100 (in state) to enjoy the “privledge” of riding a snowmobile OFF your own property
lets THINK of how many directions tat money goes
join a club and the club uses it for
insurance, equipment, fuel, repairs. trail projects that are self funded, And club administration postage, news letters etc
When you go to register and $3 goes to the agent with the rest going to be divided between fish and game for
Staff , law enforcement, search and rescue, printing and providing our decals ,their equipment,  insurance, admin
and then some goes to NH BOT for staff, admin, signs, their own equipment and the Grant in aide program that is our life blood ,,,
so is that really all we need ????

Or might it be a a good idea to have a common “ASSOCIATION “for clubs?
A condiut for communication for clubs
training for club “administration “ and groomer operators
a brick and mortar office with full time staff ?
    To host numerous committee meetings
including grass drag, Easter seals, trail masters meeting, insurance committee, scollarship, trails, legislative, and more as well as meet with officials from fish and game snd NH BOT each month to bring info Back  to clubs
the ability to organize for group insurance
an attorney to monitor all bills and possible law changes that could affect our ability to ride

Now in my THIRD year as a director I’m anything but s NHSA enthusiast,, HOWEVER I am appalled to realize there are people “enjoying” the trails that do not realize how integral an “ASSOCIATION” truly is, that’s supported ( in every way) by snowmobilers

Trail access can be a valuable as waterfront to the right person!
The current  landowner needs to clearly understand that any new landowner can choose to leave it open or close it once the property is sold ,,  the club needs to do a ONE YEAR written contract  with the current landowner that clearly states that trail use is to be renewed ANNUALLY and can be closed during the season with a 1-10 day notice in the event of a trail issue, make it formal on club letterhead  and have it signed  by the president and trail master with the contact info of every officer and directors contact information,, I'd be shocked if this does not get the trail open for this year.

It seems sometimes bad news sells more papers but I just feel I'd like to say I left the monthly NHSA meeting  feeling VERY EXCITED and upbeat over multiple POSITIVE changes , including but not limited to the manner the overall meeting was handled,  I feel there is a MUCH more calmer feel to the office, our new Executive director ( Dan) and the office admin (Steph)  are settling in  and it's rapidly becoming a better place, more productive, with some very good things ahead.  Yes I'm being vague, but let's all keep our fingers crossed that I'm right with also a great winter predicted ahead!
Just think positive and  look ahead !!   I feel a great year is before us all ,

Ok I just talked with the General Services Director, the construction in the area has been vast, including a round a bout near by,, there are some possible options to work around this ,,,, some of the problems even come from the ADA regulations and federal funds that go into these projects,
I hope the local club can reach out to the General Services and see if a solution may be reached,,, before the season gets here!!!
