  2. At or about 1:30pm on Friday December 27 we recovered one handlebar gauntlet on ITS84 far beyond Pittsburg and in close vicinity of Bosebuck Mountain Camps. We assume the handlebar gauntlet was dropped on the return to Pittsburg as no one present at Bosebuck claimed it. If it is yours write back and we will return it to you. Ride safe! Happy New Year !

  5. http://video.foxbusi.../2000862202001/ I know I am preaching to the choir but "AAA" has isued an alert advising motorists to avoid using E15 fuel. 'AAA" advises of the corrosive action ethanol fuel causes and that the 10 big motor companies will VOID any warranties on vehicles that use E15 fuel. If ethanol fuel is damaging our big motors what do you think is happening to our smaller motors? Additionally "AAA" advises / educates those who think they are saving money by purchasing the less expensive fuel that they are not saving anything as the mileage per gallon decreases with use of ethanol fuel. Take the time to view the five minute video. I found the content of the video very educational in layman language. Our goverment must take corrective action ! Where do we go from here? http://video.foxbusi.../2000862202001/

  9. ATV topic

Original article can be viewed at the July 25, 12 electronic edition of The News & Sentinel @ colbsent.com Back Lake Rd. Opened to ATVs By Jake Mardin At their meeting last Monday, the Pittsburg board of selectmen voted to allow ATV traffic on Back Lake Road from Moose Pond Road to the transfer station, and on Woodcock Drive. The state had already approved ATV riding on the portion from the transfer station to Route 3. Selectman Steve Ellis said the Great North Woods Riders ATV Club and the state coordinated with signage on Sunday, and the road has been officially opened. He said the town did some trimming on the side of the road and the board determined it was best to keep ATVs on the pavement rather than the shoulder. "ATVs could create ridges, and in a storm it could damage the road," Mr. Ellis said. ATVs travel on the pavement of the state portion of the road, and the board wanted the town portion to remain consistent. He also said that there are some areas of the shoulder with culverts that the board thought would not be appropriate for ATVs to travel on. Mr. Ellis said he has seen some riders using the road, and they were traveling the speed limit (10 miles per hour). (Issue of July 25, 2012)

  13. NH's AG Approves Forest Society's Deal for Balsams Easement

Many thanks for your assistance. Here is a direct link I found to the forest societies fundraising efforts. Day after day we are all asked to make donations for different purposes. Some I do, others I do not do for a variety of reasons. However the donation to the Balsams special project hosted by the Forest Society made me feel good. I suspect because I may actually see the result. />https://www.forestsociety.org/howyoucanhelp/special-projects-donation.asp?spid=35
  14. *********************************************************************** As printed on December 29, 2011 in the Colebrook News Sentinel. See the original article at colbsent.com AG Approves Forest Society's Deal for Balsams Easement By Jake Mardin The N.H. Attorney General's office has approved a purchase agreement between the Tillotson Corporation and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests that would allow conservation of 5,800 acres of land at The Balsams, recently sold to Balsams View, LLC. The decision came after Northern Pass first asked the AG's office not to approve the sale, then offered to buy the easement if the deal with the Forest Society does not go through. The Forest Society announced on December 7 that it had reached an agreement to conserve the land surrounding the hotel and control conservation restrictions. The new owners of the resort, Dan Hebert and Dan Dagesse, will own the land in fee; the Forest Society must raise $850,000 by January 15 to complete the agreement, and by Monday had over $230,000. The land to be conserved includes Table Rock and several miles of recreational trails, and restrictions prohibit further subdivisions but still allow for recreation and sustainable forestry. Jack Savage, VP of Communications for the Forest Society, said if the easement purchase is completed as planned, Northern Pass will not be able to cross the property. On November 4, Renewable Properties, Inc., a subsidiary of Northern Pass, made an offer to the Tillotson Corporation to purchase 300-foot-wide right of way easements in the area of a 5,917-acre parcel. The right of way would encumber about 24 acres, and a 72.4-acre parcel on Heath Road in Stewartstown. The purchase offer was for $2.2 million, and NP would also pay Tillotson Corporation $200,000, which would be used "to enhance the delivery of medical services to economically disadvantaged Coös County residents with a priority in the distribution of such funds being granted to Colebrook Hospital," during 2012. On December 20, Attorney George Dana Bisbee of Devine Millimet of Manchester asked the AG to reject the Forest Society agreement. "The Tillotson Trus-tees' action constitutes an abuse of their discretion and lacks any legal or rational explanation," he wrote. "In short, there is no reasonable basis for the trustees to reject RPI's offer for the narrow ROW corridor that RPI fully negotiated with representatives of the trust, while at the same time the trust retains rights for very similar transmission facilities that could be placed anywhere on the Balsams property to support the trust's own electricity generation and transmission activities." He also wrote, "...the crux of the matter is that the trustees, in bowing to what we know to be focused political and personal pressure in opposition to the Northern Pass, have failed to carry out their fiduciary duties properly at the expense of an additional $2.2 million for the trust and the trust's charitable beneficiaries." On December 23, RPI offered to buy the easement if the Forest Society could not make a deal. The same day, the AG's office issued its decision and approved the Forest Society's plan. "Under the agreement with the Forest Society, the Corporation would be transferring assets to the Society worth more than $3.7 million for $850,000," wrote Anthony Blenkinsop, Director of the Charitable Trusts Unit. "The proposed financial return to the Tillotson Trust from the sale of the asset was one of the many factors considered. However, the proposed transaction with the Society differs markedly from the prior transactions concerning the sale of The Balsams. The proposed transaction involves the Trustees decision to transfer an asset to another charitable entity at a below market value rate, not the sale or conversion of an asset to a private for-profit entity." "We're pleased to be working with the Tillotson Corporation," said Forest Society president and forester Jane Difley. "We are confident that those who appreciate the natural beauty and economic value of New Hampshire's for-ests and special places will step forward and help us achieve their conservation in Dixville Notch." The society had received $100,000 in donations prior to Christmas weekend and by the end of Christmas Day, had received over $200,000. By this past Monday, the total was over $230,000. Those who wish to contribute may visit www.forestsociety.org or call 603-224-9925. "END" (Issue of December 29, 2011) ************************************************************************************************* I for one fully support the purchase agreement between the Tillotson Corporation and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. I will donate a portion of $ I have not yet spent on snowmobiling 2011-2012 because of the delayed season and send same onto the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. With the delayed season I think we all have a few bucks in reserve, as like many of you, my family and I planned to be up in the burg twice already this season and have not yet made it. Additionally it looks like we wont be going up anytime soon unless the weather changes drastically. Not having gone on the two scheduled trips is a substantial savings just in fuel alone. Hopefully the $ needed to be raised by January 15, 2012 will be raised and the property will be preserved. If any of you feel strongly about this mission you too may be in a position to cut a check prior to January 15, in the name of, "Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests" - Special attention "Save the Balsams Project" Happy New Year all ! Stay safe. Paddy O
  15. December 22, 2011 - The two articles below were cut and pasted from the December 21, 2011 edition of the COLEBROOK SENTINEL NEWSPAPER. See the original articles at COLBSENT.COM. ************************************************************************************************************************* Dixville Peaks Snowmobile Trail Not Open This Season By Claire Lynch Snowmobilers expecting to scale the Dixville Peaks Trail #134 will have to wait until next winter, as construction on the windmill project caused a delay in the trail's reroute. "The windmill project reroute hasn't been completed as promised," said Colebrook Ski-Bees president Clay Hinds. "The only advice I can give to the riders is just to be wary. If the trail is closed, it's because of a danger. There is an issue where blasting has occurred." The club will continue to groom more than 120 miles of trail in the Colebrook, Stewartstown, Columbia and Dixville areas, and signs will be in place showing that the Dixville Peak trail is closed for now. "We are working with the Bureau of Trails to see what we can do," Mr. Hinds said. "Unfortunately it's been put off for different reasons. Now the season is upon us and although the contractor is ready to go, it's kind of too late. We hope next year that that trail will be put through and it will be super." Julie Smith-Galvin, a spokes-man for wind park owner Brookfield Renewable Power, issued a statement by e-mail concerning the trail issue. "The Dixville Peak snowmobile trail will be closed this winter due to the need to reroute the trail around newly installed wind turbines at the Granite Reliable Wind Project," the statement reads. "Preliminary construction activity on the reroute was recently halted due to weather conditions and the desire to keep other adjacent snowmobile routes open for the public's enjoyment. To continue construction at this time would have resulted in other trail closures." Everything is in place for construction on the Dixville Peak trail to resume by late spring, and to be completed for the 2012-13 winter season, she explained. She said the N.H. Bureau of Trails, the Umbagog Snowmobile Association and wind project representatives are collaborating on the trail reroute and are committed to its completion. "We thank the public for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this delay may cause for riding this season," she said. ********************************************************************************************************************************* Rail-Trail Work On Corridor 3A from Colebrook to Stewartstown, the N.H. Department of Transportation is working to finish removing the rails from the railroad bed. Rails have been removed from Bridge Street up to the area behind J.K. Lynch Disposal in Colebrook. On the northern end, work continues southward from Tallmage Plumbing Heating in Stewartstown, Mr. Hinds explained. "We are hoping to have all the rails pulled this year," he said. "Riders need to pay attention to the signage indicating that there are some rails there, as there is an inherit danger. I don't know if they are going to get it finished, as it is a slow process."
