2011/2012 season

26 December 2011 - 01:44 PM

Start of 2011 2012 season and unfortunately I was walking the SNHSS trails around tower hill in instead of riding. There is some good news though there is a new culvert a short distance from the dam. This spot never freezes no matter how cold the winter is or how much snow we get.

As you approach the dam at tower hill you will notice a snow fence along the base of the dam, this year heavy duty posts were installed to hold up the snow fence. The manchester water works has demanded we stay off the dam or they will close the trail and I am sure nobody want’s that. On our walk today the left side of the snow fence was already down, I doubt any snowmobilers did this (no riding yet) probably the wind. I noticed fence was ripped on the end so it probably was not wrapped around the post just zip tied to the end of the plastic sections. Posted Image

On the east side of tower pond trail there is a big pine tree down in the trail ( near the Miles service station turn) but the groomer could get around when we get snow. Posted Image

And finally the ground is getting very firm all the wet sections were frozen along with the few spots where the water flows down the trail now all we need is snow. The forecast for southern NH tomorrow 12-27-2011 is rain. :(

magalloway bowl

14 September 2011 - 01:23 PM

I was reading the union leader today and there was an article on pittsburg. The bowl was mentioned and not in a good way, "high powered" snowmachines made for "off trail" riding. That sounds like bad news to me for this segement of riders. The artice said it is a law enforcement issue, boo hoo more tickets for sure this year I bet.

2010/2011 season

02 January 2011 - 11:08 AM

The kids and I and a new member from my club (SNHSS) kicked off the new season in Lincoln at the whales tail parking lot Friday Dec. 31st. Posted Image
Steve B. asked me “hey we are going to get gas pretty quick right?” I told him I only saw one track south into Lincoln and Im not going into town, how much doo you have. He replied “well it was running like shit so I put 5 gallons in it” ok I have a plan to make sure this doesn’t happen again and tell him we will get some on the way. The trail (11 North) from the whales tail to the flume we passable but rough needs snow, the paved notch section was good friday only a few corners scraped down to tar and up by cannon was loaded with snow! The woods trail up over Haystack Mountain was freshly groomed the night before, the snow was soft now and getting chewed up. At the intersection of gale river Rd. and 11 north steve said “hey how much further to gas” the plan is starting to take shape (HA HA) I replied oh not that far. We took the scenic loop off of 104 west the snow was great in there and more groomed flat trails. Once off the rail bed section heading into Bethlehem crossing highway 302 the trail was starting to fall apart we stopped at the golf course to take a break, the first words from Steve was “ hey I am running on fumes” now the plan is in full swing I got him right where I had hope to “panic mode”. We were only a couple of miles from the gas station but I kept him wound tight telling him only 12 more miles to gas, we made it to the gas station in town. Posted Image

I also rode yesterday Jan1st the notch is done in my opnion and haystack Mountain to gale river is done too wicked bad!
