Great North Woods Vintage Mod Finals Video!

18 March 2012 - 05:43 PM

Yesterday saw the last race for the Great North woods Series, and it was well attended by lots of hearty souls that saw some great racing on a track that had been stockpiled since January. This video was shot by " ImKeepinUp" while I was filming some different angles from the infield.

Some of the Mods were really flying and really used up the last of the snow!

Enjoy!

Gotta' Love Monday in Pittsburg!

12 March 2012 - 03:35 PM

Myself and "ImKeepinUp" headed out from home base this morning about 8AM, after watching the overnight temperature go down to the mid 20's. I have a single slot trail from my house that can get onto First Conn Lake, and heading down the lake it wasn't long when we reached the junction of Magalloway Road and Smith Brook Road. It was soon obvious the groomers had been out working their magic last night and we were the first to head up to Diamond Ridge, Stubb Hill Pond, up 112 to 143, up to the Tin Camp and was going to head back on 5 until we saw the sign about "high water" and retraced out steps back to First Lake and home.
Back a 11 AM with an incredibly flat 65 miles in comfortable temperatures and a total number of sleds encountered running at FIVE!

Things in the Burg are still phenomenal if you can get yourself out early in the day and haul your own fuel. Trails are still well covered and the groomers are still working them over often.

Sunday Baker River Valley Vintage Ride

05 March 2012 - 09:53 PM

This past weekend was full of vintage activity that saw some great races in Errol on Saturday and Sunday I went down to Baker River Valley for a Vintage ride on their great system, which was in good shape. I was surprised to see lots of sleds already there when I arrived around 7:30 AM with the ride scheduled to start at 8:00. There were two starting points of the ride, one at Ev and Vic Ferrell's and the second in the higher elevations off Clough Road. When the two groups merged into one in was like a time machine had hiccuped back to the 70's. I was riding my 75 Rupp Nitro II 440 that I had never taken very far, and was a little apprehensive knowing it was set up for drag racing with a 5 grand clutch engagement, which made things a little interesting at times, but the sled was amazing, ran well, always started first pull and even got good mileage over the 50 miles we did. There were lots of Yammies, Cats, Polaris's, a Scorpion, Custom John Deere, 5 Rupps including a great 73 Nitro custom that Tom Harnish had put together. Rode all morning with very few stops for some necessary "tweaks" to several sleds carb adjustments, but overall the vintage herd liked the conditions and the trails. The ride ended up at Clough Road parking area where we had a cookout and talked to a very friendly dog sled crew that were also parked there.
