The Colebrook Chronicle
Tonight, the Colebrook Planning Board approved the last subdivision that was needed for Balsams View LLC--the parcel that holds a landfill. Several speakers were at the special planning board meeting--including the Dept. of Environmental Services, which assured the planning board that the property will be properly monitored over the coming years and that the town of Colebrook would not be held liable if an owner walks out on the responsibility of closing the landfill that exists on the property. We'll have the full story in Friday's Chronicle.

I am surprised about all the negativity toward the new owners of the Balsams being generated here. They seem to be very motorized recreation orientated. Maybe this will change your mind It is just one part of 5 but seems to me the Balsams as it was wasn't not supporting itself and some new ideas are much needed if it is to survive. How many that are complaining about the changes ( before they even happen) have ever even spent a night there in the last 10 years? If you have spent a night there was it for anything but the Easterseals ride in? When we were looking for land to build our cabins we were warned by many locals to stay out of Colebrook as the planning board is a nightmare to deal with. If you do a little reserch the subdivsion is so they can aquire financing for the renovation. They will still own the dump site just under a different company. This is done to please bankers who can be even harder to deal with than planning boards especially after the housing bubble burst a few years ago. These new owners so far have been super friendly to the new metallak atv club and are just as nice to the Swiftdiamondriders who have 10+ miles of trail though their property. I wish all the best to the 2 Danny's in making the Balsams a success

I think Rob had issues with that vintage XC ingesting snow around the headlight when riding in powder or following too close to a sled in front on him. He had a fix that involved a rubber gasket around the headlight /hood area. Maybe shoot him a PM as I don't think he frequents here much anymore.

You Off Trail guys crack me up. Getting stuck is the highlight of your day.

Stuck is definetly NOT the highlight but its tough to snap a pic when you blowin though the big powder don't knock it 'til you try it. I get to do both more than most and know for sure powder off trail is way more fun. Different strokes for different folks tho thats for sure
