Moultonboro SMC ANNUAL MEETING

21 April 2012 - 02:55 PM

MSC ANNUAL MEETING BBQ

HI Everyone!

It’s that time of year again for our final get together of the season. This year we thought we would make it fun with a BBQ. It will be a bit different than the Winter Blues Dinner in that we will have the outdoor patio, warmer weather, and the playground for the kids!, Bring the family!

The club will be providing the grilled meats, homemade baked beans provided by George’s Diner, and soft drinks. If you can bring a side dish, appetizer or dessert, please contact Cathy. The Winter Blues Dinner was such a success that we had TONS of great food!

Come out, enjoy the evening with friends, and come with your ideas on how we can make next season the best one ever!

Date: May 5th, 2012

Time: 6pm to 9pm

Place: Suissevale Clubhouse

RSVP: Cathy Erving

As they Say Vote EARLY and OFFTEN?

To those procrastinating about registering, The Clubs need your Registration money desperately in the coming physical year. Why you ask? The last several years even with good snow conditions overall Registration has been down significantly. As you know the Trails are funded solely by Snowmobile Registrations. This means there will be less and less money for New Grooming Equipment and Trial Maintenance. On top of this there will be NO Federal RPT Grants issued in 2012. Not sure how our National Legislators voted on this?

In past years with high registration numbers Clubs could shoot for a New Groomer (depending on needs) and 3 Trail Projects. This has been whittled down to New equipment being the exception and may be one Trail Project. Several years ago it was broken down to a choice, if you were looking for a New Groomer and Trail Works funds you the choice of one and not the other. There has been talk that in the future there would be more emphasis on spending monies on Refurbishing Groomers rather than buying New.

You should talk to your County Director some time and see how much goes into spreading what little funding is available when trying to share it equitably through out the State.

SKI-DOO VIP DEMO RIDE ?????

27 December 2011 - 02:13 PM

I have been selected to take part in the Ski-Doo Demo Tour. Has anyone else in the area been selected for the Tour? Coincidently BRP has scheduled part of the Tour right here in Moultonboro in March between the 14th and 18th. I have scheduled my Demo ride for Saturday the 17th at 1:00pm. Has any body at BRP Marketing looked at the chances of good snow cover being around at this time frame?

Now here is where it gets interesting from what details(BRP)I have been able to gather. NONE! I talked to Phyllis at NHSA and they do not have any thing that seems to be From BRP looking for NHSA’s help in coordinating these events at the State level. I have not heard any thing from the Club (Moultonboro SMC) about the Demo Ride.

What I have been told by BRP is this will be a 2 hour session of which 1-1/2 hours will be the "DEMO RIDE" and the other half listing to the merits of the Ski-Doo Brand. Sounds like a "Time Share Offer" meet and greet?

One would think the BRP Marketing would have contacted the local Clubs who's Trails would be involved in such a ride of 1-1/2 hours and especially our Club if it were to be run out of Moultonboro. Logistically where would they be setting up physically set this up in Moultonboro, what Trail access would there be and would the offer to compensate the Clubs for “GROOMING” the trails for “THEIR” event? Do they need state permission to even hold such an event? Where they are going to do a DEMO “RIDE” do they need to “REGISTER” each Sled in New Hampshire? If so they may want to join NHSA to get the discount on the registrations.

The BRP Marketing TEAM will not be back in the office till January 3rd. I have been promised a return phone call as soon as the information is available.

Again if any one else has any information about the DEMO RIDE please let it be known.

Busy Day for the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club

19 December 2011 - 05:22 PM

Saturday was a very busy day for the Club. In the morning we stared with our Snowmobile Safety Course and ended it with our Holi##&& Christmas Party.

We had 34 young adults take the course and successfully earn their Saftey Certificates. Many of the Parents and Grand Parents were in attendance during the course.

As usual Steve surprised us with some very delicious Soups, managing not to duplicate any of those we had at last years Course. Pizza and Subs from Murphy's new "Emporium" location was Delicious.

Our only disappointment was the lack of snow for the Riding Test portion of the Course, First time in four years no snow.

Our second event of the day, the Christmas Party, at CANOE, started a 6:30pm with 68 members attending. It had to be the single most attend club activity in many years. Thanks to all who attend.

And while speaking Thanks let's give Cathy Erving and Jane Thurston a big round of applause for all their efforts in organizing the Party.
Not only was the dinner well coordinated, the work put in getting local businesses to donate to our Silent Auction was tremendous.

Ok Cathy what are you going to do for next Christmas?

I would (and Cheryl) like to take this opportunity to thank Cathy for stepping up to take over as the Clubs Social Coordinator. Did I hear at the party that she is also think or going to volunteer to take the vacant Vice President’s position?

11-22-2011

Happy Holidays to all members of the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club. Thank you to all of those that have sent their renewals into the Club. We appreciate the support! Bring on the snow. In the meantime, I would like to update you on some club news:

New Director: Jim Callahan of Moultonborough has joined the board as a Director. Jim has recently been hired as a police officer for the Town of Guilford, NH after working for several seasons as a member of the NH Marine Patrol. We thank Jim for stepping up to fill this position and look forward to working with him!

Volunteer Opportunities/ MSC Leadership: Like all snowmobile clubs in NH, the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club officers and directors are all volunteers. We have one opening on our board. Please contact me or any other club officer or director if you are interested. We meet monthly to conduct club business. Please see our club website moultonborosmc.org for contact information. We appreciate all of our club volunteers; you make the club what it is!

Thank you: I would like to send a special thank you out to George Higgins. George acts as our communication coordinator. He manages our email list and sends out most of the updates from the Club. If there are mistakes or missed deadlines, he works tirelessly to get us squared away (the mistakes and missed deadlines are usually mine!).

Trail Work: We are well underway on our trail work for the 2011/2012 season. We have work parties each Saturday. We really need more help this year and are going to try to hold 3 large trails days instead. We will be advertising these dates via email, the website, Facebook and a sign board in town. Please try to set aside some time to help. Most of the work encompasses cutting overgrowth, installing snow fences and general clean-up. As you are snowmobiling through the woods this winter, you will get a special sense of satisfaction: "hey we worked on this trail".

The MSC garage is located on Highway Garage Drive which is approximately 3/4 of a mile down Moultonborough Neck Road on the left. We hope to see you there- we are happy to have any help we get, even if you can only make one weekend a year.

Web Site: Please visit our website at moultonborosmc.org to see our new look. The site will allow us to easily post updates and will automatically update our Facebook page. As the season progresses we hope to be providing real time updates from the groomers. Thank you to Paul Driscoll for getting this done!

Holiday Party: Our annual holiday party will be held on Saturday evening, December 17, 2011 at Canoe Restaurant in Center Harbor. We will have the entire downstairs to ourselves including the newly enclosed porch and I hope to see old friends and meet some new ones. Thank you to Cathy Erving for helping to organize this event. Details will be posted on the website and we will be sending out a reminder email as the date nears.

Snowmobile Safety Course: We will be holding our 2011 Snowmobile Class on Saturday December 17th at the Geneva Point Center, Geneva Point Road, Moultonboro. The Class will start at 8:00am and run through to 3:30pm. The Club will be providing Lunch.

Please bring your riding gear as part of the Class requires riding on an outdoor course to test your knowledge of snowmobile rules and riding skills. We encourage Parents to attend the class with their children.

Please contact Steve Janaitis at 603-253-6707 as soon as possible to reserve a place in the Class.

Membership: Members should have received their membership applications either electronically or with this letter via the US Mail. Please send them back as soon as possible. If you have not received them please see our website.
Trail Maps: We are performing a major overhaul to our club maps for this season. Because of this, they will likely not be available until late fall/ early winter. We are seeking advertisers to help offset the cost of printing. If you are interested in adverting with us please contact me.
Groomer: We have reached an agreement to purchase a 1997 Tucker 1000 Groomer and 16 foot drag to replace our Track Truck. The new to us Tucker will be located on the Balmoral/ Suissevale/ Skelley’s section of our trail system. This machine will allow us to better manage and groom this heavily travelled area.
Winter Festival: We will be holding a winter festival this year during the riding season at the recreation area at Playground Drive (across from Subway). This will be a family event with refreshments, activities and demonstrations. We are planning on having our grooming fleet on hand and will provide rides in our 2009 Tucker 1000 (and hopefully the new machine as long as we can get it transported there). Look for more details as the season progresses.
