Looks like a number of SledNHers and crew are heading to the OVSC today, along with a number of folks who rode yeaterday and are coming back today (judging by the emails I've replied to on the OVSC website).

Remember to check out the Groomer Rodeo over at White Lake State Park today! And don't forget to stop by the Canoe King and say hello to John (ckf) and Mitch...:good:

As the website reports, trails were groomed Thursday night and out past Page Hill heading towards the James Pond Loop conditions are quite good with elevation.

I've gotta stop at the Canoe King first and throw on a new pair of C & A skis that John ordered for me then I hope to see a lot of you out there....:yahoo:

Please, join a Club where you regularly ride...and when you see a Groomer Jar hopefully give what you can as every penny counts!

I have some family members here on Sunday and they want to try snowmobiling in some type of easy field. My guess is that OVSC has the best nearby snow but I have two questions:

Where is a good OVSC place to trailer to?

Where would I find a good, simple field for a bunch of family newbies to try driving a sled?

Many thanks !

Rick, drop @ Canoe King, ride across the street into the park, go until you pass the "sentry hut", take the next right. That section is self contained and gets very little use. You could also drop on Rt25 East at the ballpark (Constitution park) and ride south across Rt25 from there. You might see 3 sleds all day on this section, as nobody comes across the lake. The trails are flat, and nice. The coverage in the fields where you drop there is sketchy, but in the woods beyond it's fine. Hasn't been groomed though. If you do drop there, do not go past the 6 acre field that is just after the green mt road crossing.
It's about 3 miles down the trails from Rt25.
The mt. section starts after that field, and it's no place for beginners or sleds you care about with this coverage. That field is fine to putter around in if you like.

OldTimer, I think the trails were better than you described! :) I've certainly been on worse. My boyfriend and I left from Canoe King, and when we went to buy a map, the man at the counter told us where to find some lovely fields in the direction we were going. We found one and I had a grand old time plowing the snow there for a bit! :) Then I got back on the back of the sled and we went off exploring! We will definitely be back as we had a really nice time.

We also got lost for a bit on the groomer loop but the trail was GREAT right there, too! LOL! Then my boyfriend stopped letting me navigate for a bit and got us back on track quickly! LOL!

I am very happy you guys had a decent ride. The story about the dogsleds was cool.
