Josh Judge from WMUR TV in Manchester came to the Epsom Library to speak last night. Nothing elso going on so I went to see him. It was a great talk and very informative. I bought his book "Extreme New England Weather" and had it signed. The weather in NH is very difficult to forcast with the variety of terrain, water features (big lake and ocean), etc. We are having and mild winter and it will tend to stay that way although hopefully the mountains and north will hope to see more snow. "We usually have at least 1 month with good snow/winter weather". I hope that month is coming up...there might be a slight shift in the pattern but nothing big.
I also learned that WMUR is one of the last news stations in the country to only have a 5 day forcast (per the weather team) because a 7 day forcast is at best a crap shoot. Weather is so variable around here. Look at last nights forcast vs this am forcast. Predicting snow forcasts is VERY stressfull for him and the biggest reason people watch the news {at all} is for the WEATHER.
The SUPER computer that help forcast the weather is the basis for their own forcast. There are many computer models, all sometimes with different predictions. They need to personally decifer the data and come up with a forcast. The WEATHER CHANNEL is 100% non-human computer forcast!
Food for thought. If you get a chance to see him it is worth going. Keep up the snow dance.........

I used to work for ch5 (sister station to ch9) and built their new hd weather facility. Very true... weather is the biggest draw to watch a newscast so a ton of money goes into wx resources. It is also true the human intervention is the magic sauce to get it right.

My family saw Josh last week in Milton and bought his book too. Great presentation! He truly enjoys what he does!
