Sat i rode the 03F7 70 miles with no problems. Sunday at -17 i rode out of
groveton parking area and headed to Errol. I checked the oil and coolant. Coolant was alittle low so i filled it. I did put to much in. I got probably 6-10 miles and the check engine light started flashing. Pulled over, tilted the hood, and checked to see what i could see. I removed the coolant cap and started it up to push some out. Both coolant side tubes were hot to the touch. I closed the hood and headed back. About 2 miles more and the same thing. Stop, let it sit a little and go some more. The last time i was almost back to the truck, stopped let it cool, but this time every time i brought the throttle up, the light would flash. Idle down it would go away. I shut it off sat for afew minutes and made it to the truck. Every time you brought the rpm up the light flashed. I dont think it was that hot. There was no power loss or noise.

Did you feel your heat exchangers to see if they were getting hot , to make sure coolant was circulating through system ? I`m not a cat or any other guru but have had simular issues when a thermostat got stuck closed or air got into your system and locked it up or your coolant bottle cap either didn`t go back on tight enough to pressurize system.
I would run the sled to confirm circulation through heat exchangers , if that isn`t happening I would elevate the front of sled and try and burp air (if out of system in case it`s locked up. Then make sure cap is good on bottle.

Yes both of the running board tubes were hot to the touch. Is the a water temp light on these? Also could it be the TSS or the TPS?

Sorry not real familar with your sled, maybe give Livingstons a call I hear great things about them being helpful. If your getting good circulation it very well could be a sensor.

I saw your truck at the madhouse saturday (SDR) went back there Sun a.m. only 5 trucks in the lot at 8:30 a.m....good luck with your sled

Probably has nothing to do with the coolant if things aren't getting real hot and you can touch them. Could be a tps sensor or a exhaust valve servo motor, those two things fail alot on the cats especially crossfires and Firecats. If you need someone to look at it give the shop a call 781-910-2281.

If the exchangers were "hot" it is sounding like not enough snow kicking up on the exchangers,, I f this happens again look at the undersides of ALL exchangers, they should have melting snow dripping from them,,,,,or a possible over heat is coming
too slow of a pace,,,,OR,,,,,icy conditions are two occasions when not enough snow is "kicking up"

Could be air bound.....the F7's needed to be "burped" when coolant was changed or added. Do a search on HCS and there should be plenty of info.

System could just need to be "burped" or there isnt enough snow going up to cool the exchangers....happens all the time on my 06 F-7.....every once in a while go off trail and get some loose powder up there to cool it down...

Sure it isn't the "low oil" light? They will flsah like that if the oil is below 1/3 full on the earlier F7s...mine did it, scared the crap out of me with 90 miles on it.

You have to get the front end up at least 4' in the air, that much I know...and there may even be a little side tilting involved. I dis-remember the specifics.

Might want to hit up Arcticchat.com and ask the die-hards.

Mine flashed just once in 4300 miles, and it flashed quick, not steady. It was sitting idling with the headlights on at an accident scene for maybe 15 minutes. Hit the powder and it stopped immediately.

Will the cat engine derate power if it's running hot with the engine light?

No. It'll run like a scalded dog till it stops running period.

Not good. I've seen many engines saved because they were smarter than the operator and shut themselves down. :good:

Double edged sword. Tech is good, but it comes at a hefty price- and tends to cause as much grief as it saves in certain ways.

Certainly some truth to that.
