You would not have any glass left in the truck if anyone shot at it with paintballs today. That cold wind was brutal. Despite being dressed as if we were riding, we did not last very long there. It's a shame mother nature fought this event as she has all other winter activity this year. A fine event was not brought to its full potential. Hats off to the folks who made it happen. Good racing, food , location.
Bilbo, you could not have said it any better, Mother Nature has been on the "broom" for way too long it seams,,, The Town Line Trail Dusters Provided the Longest track these racers have been on THIS SEASON in recap here are a "few" of the things we worked against.
WEATHER included
No natural snow
Mild temps,,,, when it was time to make snow thus we could only make a FRACTION of what we wanted to
VERY MILD temps,,,,, on Friday when racers were arriving making things pretty "sloppy" especially in the "PIT's No one cane close to getting stuck tho.
30 degrees on Friday eve,,,,, causing the completely groomed access, parking, and spectator areas to be "muddy" by 10 am with the MILD temps on Saturday
Many 100's of cars came in and out without 1 needing a push,
3 hrs Sat night regrooming the entire facility to prepare for Sundays fans. A core group from the Town Line Trail Dusters already tired got out there.
Sunday AM,,,,, arrived with about the coldest PUNCH we have had all winter with the strongest winds biting any exposed flesh, and at times whipping up DUST,,,, from the field.
Early Sunday AM ,,, Concord was hit with a serious fire at the same time we had two accidents on the track,, tho we had two rescue units one had to be pulled for mutual aide and with the second leaving the track we had to cease racing for about 40 minutes
The winds INCREASED causing the Rave x event to preform off the tabletop rather than their ramp and the landing ramp that had been worked on so hard on friday.
IN THE END
I have been amazed by several things
#1 The love and commitment of the Race families I met and talked with,,, this is their life!
#2 The passion that drives this sport, Fans, spectators, club members, racers all coming together and making a great weekend with memories that we will never forget
#3 The support from sponsors, these events require support at Race Team level, at Organizer level and at Host level
NOW ITS OVER, Can we do this again?
I was in the pit Saturday when a mom of a racing 9 year old girl struck up a conversation with me,,,,, (YES she spoke first)
When she understood my position in this event she BEGGED me to "Do it again next year"
I met and visited Shawn Donahue and his family and gained such an appreciation of his entire family's commitment to the sport (Two two men who have sparred pretty hard on this forum) It was a great visit.
I heard great comments about the VENUE from EVERYONE
Sunday the landowner came to me and asked "You'll be able to do this agin next year right?"
It's almost 2 am,, I guess we will see,,,,,,,,
FOR NOW,,,, Thank You Everyone!
