Start of 2011 2012 season and unfortunately I was walking the SNHSS trails around tower hill in instead of riding. There is some good news though there is a new culvert a short distance from the dam. This spot never freezes no matter how cold the winter is or how much snow we get.

As you approach the dam at tower hill you will notice a snow fence along the base of the dam, this year heavy duty posts were installed to hold up the snow fence. The manchester water works has demanded we stay off the dam or they will close the trail and I am sure nobody want’s that. On our walk today the left side of the snow fence was already down, I doubt any snowmobilers did this (no riding yet) probably the wind. I noticed fence was ripped on the end so it probably was not wrapped around the post just zip tied to the end of the plastic sections. Posted Image

On the east side of tower pond trail there is a big pine tree down in the trail ( near the Miles service station turn) but the groomer could get around when we get snow. Posted Image

And finally the ground is getting very firm all the wet sections were frozen along with the few spots where the water flows down the trail now all we need is snow. The forecast for southern NH tomorrow 12-27-2011 is rain. :(

Keeping sleds off that side hill is a good idea safety wise with the way the trail runs through there. Hopefully when the season does get going people will respect your boundary through there.

The main reason to keep the sleds off the dam is because of maintenance. Every year MWW has to go out and sod sections again because of sleds. The state is really after Dam owners for maintenance safety. You'll notice that a lot of trees were cut along the dam and that was also a state mandate. MWW has been good with the club on trail use.

We now have 3 threads going whining about no snow...
Food for thought:

Dec 2007:
I picked up my new sled Dec 15th and was able to ride THAT DAY from Milton. I had to shovel my roof in Nottingham, before heading to Pittsburg for Christmas weekend, and the riding up there was great. Jan 5, 2008 - rode OVSC trails with CKF. Life was good.
What next: Epic meltdown. I did not log 1 more mile in NH until Feb 3. After that it was a good season, but the entire month of January was pretty much a bust.

Better to have a late start, and then a steady season, then to have big snow early only to see it all melt away in the early part of January, and then have to start all over.

The snow will come. and hopefully when it does it will be here to stay.

I have found that big snow before the 1st means little snow after the first . our best snows always come after the 1st.

I remember when that little fence wasnt there, honestly it was fun going up and down the dam, but last year people had no respect and eventually just started running the fence over. The trail into myles is always beat to crap also, but doing laps around towerhill is fun! and when it's frozen going across it.

You from around there REV-ED? i actually live in Candia and get to towerhill right from my backyard.

Yes, im sure you know the spot. The new one is about 50/75 feet south from the one that was put in a few years ago.

As much as I want snow, we still have some work to do to the sleds before riding. Also the teen's sled needs to be put together. Then let it snow!!!!!

Well nothing but a cold rain here in Manchevgas a trip outside with the dogs not even a skim of the ice they had predicted. I think the old 99 ZR 600LE (rock sled) is going to get pushed to the front of the sled line up this year. In years past like this one I have broken many sleds on the first few times out. You just wait for enough snow to ride, no base, no mercy, just cruising along and wham you bust the tie rod end on something just below the surface of that white carpet. Son of a bitch now I have to ride back to the truck with one ski pointing backwards “ doh stupid sled” if you are lucky you only spin out a few times from the ski flipping around at the least opportune time. Then it is off the the dealer only to find there are twenty people in front of you all waiting for the service writer to get your busted sled in the Que. Then the overwhelmed service guy tells you it will be a month before you can get your sled serviced. We are having some fun now! So you order the parts you think you need, wait a week for them to come in put them on, and repeat this vicious cycle till spring comes. This is how I taught myself to fix my snowmobiles. Now at 45 years of age, I have “learned the hard way”, just like dad always said was the only way I learned anything. Im waiting patiently and have polished up the old mean green machine, have tie rod ends in the tool kit and can’t wait for the first ride. My first ride of the year this year will be on logging roads, the woods trail riding this first half of the year is going to tear up a lot of machines so be careful.

Is that mile 6 spot where trail 117 comes onto the power lines?

Well finally got out and went for a ride this weekend made it to the new warming hut in Jericho very nice place hope it stays that way. We rode 11 north from Randolph rough in the woods as to be expected with the amount of snow. The woods trails 20 mph or less will help prevent leaving parts behind from stuffing a water bar real bad. In jericho the trails were good with just enough snow, watch for turned up rocks the drag caught. 19 north and south from Jericho to gorham was freshly groomed and had adequate coverage. 12 north into Berlin was good also only went as far as the water treatment plant. 70 miles only 20 were rough
