Easter Seals 2012 Ride-In Conditions
January 30, 2012

Here is the latest on conditions assuming Wednesday's warmup is not a washout (which it is NOT supposed to be).
YES you can ride from Gorham and get to some Good to Excellent conditions in the following 3 areas:

Jericho Mt. State Park - Berlin - White Mt. Ridge Runners
The best way to get there is to ride north on Cor. 19. There are about 40 miles of groomed trails in the park and there are another 30 miles of ungroomed ATV trails that you can ride on as well. Be sure to stop in at the Warming Hut (signs are posted in the park) to see that view. Riding on all the trails in the park is good to excellent. The one exception is riding to the top of Mt. Forist which is not recommend due to lack of snow. However you can ride almost all the way to the top and turn around where the groomer turns around and see a pretty nice view to the Northwest. But the last mile around the top overlooking Berlin and Gorham and needs a lot more snow or you will risk damage to your machine. If you need food or gas, take PT108 into Berlin. Its only 3 miles into town off Cor. 19 and it goes right by Valley Creek Eatery which is a great place to eat. You can also take Cor. 12 East to the Big Apple Gas station and then cross on the Berlin City Trail. You can access Toni's Pizza right that side of town.

Nash Stream - Groveton - Groveton Trailblazers
The most direct way to get there is to take Cor. 19N to Cor. 11S to PT109N to PT117. There are about 20 miles of riding in the Nash Stream Valley that is good to excellent. There is also a credit card gas station near the junction of Cor. 5 and PT117. Recommended trails are Cor. 5, West Side, East Branch Loop and Cor. 28. Stay away from Cor. 7 and the trails out by Stratford Bog as they had not been touched as of last Sunday. If that changes, I will let you know.

Millsfield - Errol - Umbagog Snowmobile Association
There are about 60 miles of trails out by Dummer Pond and Millsfiield Pond that are all on logging roads and are all in excellent condition. This area made out the best in the last snowstorm and with flat logging roads, lets just say staying below the state speed limit is a challenge. There are three ways to get there. Ride to Groveton and take Cor. 28 to Cor. 19N into Millsfield. Or you can take Cor. 19N about 25 miles north of Gorham into this area. You will have to go through about 5 miles of thin snow on the powerline from Milan Village to Dummer; not perfect, but passable (no mud or water). The third option is to trailer up Rt. 16 and leave from the Pontook parking lot located about 1.5 miles north of the junction of Rt. 16 and Rt.110A. A note about getting into Errol this year. If you want to go into Errol center to get gas and food, be prepared for about 5 miles of marginal conditions. Normally there are 3 ways into Errol, but this year one of those trails is shut down. Coming from the south, follow Cor. 19 to the 13-mile woods trail and that will bring you right into Errol Center. From the north, you need to take Cor. 18 south past the Buffalo Farm and then into town. An alternative is to gas up and get food in Milan. There are some great places to eat right off of Cor. 19: Milan Deli and Grocery, Milan Luncheonette (has gas) and Ursulas just north of Milan Village.

Other possible areas - Depends on Wednesday's weather and more info is needed from local riders:

Milan - Success - Milan All Weather Riders
I have not heard any recent updates about riding in this area. I plan to call this club to try and get more info. They do have some great trails on logging roads, but you need to travel over some woods trails to get there and from what I was told, those woods trails were very rough last weekend.

Jefferson - Waumbek Methna Club
Normally this area measures their snow with yardsticks, but not this year. However, you can take Cor. 12W to Lowes Gas Station, then head up the hill behind Lowes and see a nice view on the Icy Gulch trail and then take Cor. 11 into Berlin. Its a little thin behind Lowes, but still rideable from the reports I have heard.

Larry, don't forget the Lead Mine Look out which over looks Gorham (From the Town and Country take 19 North to Cor. 12 East cross over the big bridge over rt. 16 and the river go about 1/2 mile cross a small bridge take a right up trail and then a left follow the trail from there, in no longer loops but a short ride up high to see the views.)

Also Pine mtn. look out is nice to cor 19 north to cor 12 west to Pinham B. road that is the first road crossing you will get to on Cor.12 take a left through the field and follow the signs nice ride up good snow cover in fact just got home from grooming it!! Tempted to hop on the sled and go put some tracks on it but I have to work tommorow.

We will be having the radar run hosted by the Presidential Range Riders on Saturday at the Gorham Airport we will have burgers, dogs, and chili for sale on site should be a good day. Come grab a burger and do a few runs and help support our club.

Thanks Baron62 look me up at the Radar Run if you make it there.
Brian

Thanks for the timely updates Larry...will be up that way tomorrow for what promises to be an outstanding event!

Please, join a Club where you regularly ride...and when you see a Groomer Jar hopefully give what you can as every penny counts!

We rode the Gorham-Berlin-Milan area on Friday/Saturday and found the trails to be great. The new warming hut was a big hit with the wife and I.
