been enjoying pittsburg for few years now. spent few trips last summer looking for a small camp. done my best to meet locals. been watching the pittsburg site for few years now. somehow just figured out where you all gather. stayed at lopstick couple times this winter. one time down by the trail and parked at room. the other time by the office. had a dumb question that I didn't bother asking them. what is up with that motocross track that you ride to get to the trail? I didn't mind it, but couldn't help but wonder how nonsnowmobilers rent unpicked machines and baha out of there. I fully expected a few to be upsidown

That is Lopstick Lodge's private access trail. It is also shared by a few local residents, but any maintenance that gets done to it is by Lopstick. I have seen them run a small drag through there occaisionally, but it pretty much is always pretty wooped up. How do the renters get through - just take it slow.
I have, on occaision, used it to De-Ice my tunnel when returning from a day on the trails
But the locals would appreciate it if you just pass through there slowly, and be aware that you are quite likely to meet inexperienced riders on rental sleds coming the opposite direction, so try to make it as easy for them to pass as possible.

Welcome 4strokes
thanks, off to good start. I hear ya on making it easy for them. started my season off here with a newbe rider come to pick his sled up after that waste deep dump. no base. against my wishes, he tried to go around the yard. 150ft straight down the back yard, right upsidown at the bottom of my pond. emediately in shock, got in his truck and left. had to pull it out on its side with winches/rhino. luckily it was just a formula 3. cant even imagine what renters must do on occasion up there. one thing is for sure, if they were going to wreck, the would do it 20ft from the office there. after that magalloway tower is easy. and yes, saw some nice tunnel chunks there, said yamaha right on them. probably my own.
so OVR. If I'm adding this up correctly, you are with the warming hut? wanted to check it out a few times, just didn't happen. opted to look for a side trail to 4th lake. doesn't look possible

Yes, Mrs. OVR and I started doing the "Deer Mountain Warming Hut" back in 1995 and it has grown from there. Now Bob (ironrider) and Sue (Mrs. ironrider) are your hosts at the "Hut". Great people who enjoy meeting and talking to visiting sledders. Put it on your "Bucket List" of places to visit when you are back in the 'Burg next season.:good:

one more question. I can not help but scheme to go back up there for one more. my last was my one more and my olady is done with the snow. but after smoosing up, doesn't look like I will end up divorced if I go again with a friend. was few days ago thinking sun-mon-tue. I usually do all week days to avoid people. looking at weather, looks rain for few days starting Mon afternoon. I can only justify going up for mint conditions. thinking they will start to suffer after rain. now looks like I may aim for sat-sun-mon to avoid weather. will it be busy up there? or has it tapered off? the other thing is that I spend midseason riding here, so seems grooming frequency is down during week and based on weekends like they do here

Yes, it looks pretty iffy Monday afternoon through Tuesday. But starting Wednesday the temperature will be dropping and the trails will still be good. By Thursday the cold returns and the riding should be great.

If you can come up toward the end of the week, I think you will have a better chance for good conditions. Keep a watch on John's NH Weather and my reports. :good:

I think he meant tomorrow thru Mon the 4th...

Go for it 4 Strokes.
You will not find the traffic too bad on the weekend now. Only the die hards are still riding. Last Saturday was not too bad. I also avoid weekends during the winter months, but I was there last weekend and had a ball.

I was there sat. had the olady on the back of the xtx for 100mi. all of it 50 or so on the snowbanks, rarely went in trail. what a trooper she was. ridding was great, little rough heading to vintage races. get kind of tired of people out of control on the wrong side though. happens everywhere, thats why I avoid traffic. already got hit down here mid season. same deal, out of control, my side. all but broke my leg and left me a little skittish. never saw much of that mid week up there.
