I will be launching onto 2S out of Lebanon on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I will have my wife and three kids in tow. A few years back I made the ride into Boscawen for lunch at Allen's Restaurant. (It was about 55 miles one way.)

I have a couple questions about my upcoming ride....

1. Does anyone know if Allen's is still there? Or have another suggestion of where to eat.

2. If it is still there I remember I had to take a small side trail off of 2S to get there, does anyone know what trail
that is?

3. How far is Mount Kearsage from 2S... I was thinking of taking them up to enjoy the view on the way to lunch (if it
is "on-the-way" that is.

4. Lastly, Where can I get gas at? and would I need to get gas before or after Mt Kearsage if Kearsage is "on-the-way".

We are riding an 07 600sdi and an 04 550 Suppersport fanner. Any help anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks rlaclair. by 11 I assume that is a trail # not a road and is there appropriate signage availbale to direct me to gas when in boscawen to the locations you described? And what about Mnt Kearsage? Is it "on-the-way?" And if so would you think I would need gas before lunch if Boscawen is my destination?

Trail to Mt Kearsage is right off the railbed in Andover, you will go by a jct. for gas and food right at the jct of rt 4 & rt 11(road routes). You will go by an old rail station (potter place), the trail will be your next jct on the right. If you get to the covered bridge you`ve gone to far. There will be ample signage and places for gas .I was out the other day and signs were up for Allen`s. You shouldn`t need gas till after lunch on your return trip(if your returning the same route),as the ride up to Kearsage is probably no more than 5 miles off the railbed. Not sure what all your sleds are capable of for mileage on a tank , just plan accordingly....enjoy here is link for Andover trail map showing what you need http://www.andoversn...om/TrailMap.htm

I saw a post and pictures of sleds on top of Mt Kearsage at the fire tower you may want to look into that, the trail will stop at Winslow State Park where all the views are, ask others who might be there at same time. Not sure how tough it is to make it to top with family but I have seen some antiqu sleds heading to the top before.

Great info guys! thanks for the detailed directions dunphy11. 5 miles is an easy detour, well worth a look if conditions are right. When you say railroad bed I assume you are referring to 2s... right?

I have a couple questions about my upcoming ride....

1. Does anyone know if Allen's is still there? Or have another suggestion of where to eat. Alans is still there and a great place to bring the fam. for lunch or dinner.

2. If it is still there I remember I had to take a small side trail off of 2S to get there, does anyone know what trail
that is? 2s feeds into CORRIDOR #11
In Franklin take Corridor#11 south to the END of the trail on the railbed in Boscawen where it bears to your right , up across HIGHWAY rt #4 and the HIGHWAY rt 3#
signs are PERFECT to get you into Alan's,,, just be sure to read them! (it's a 10 min ride from the railbed)

3. How far is Mount Kearsage from 2S.(you mean corridor #11).. I was thinking of taking them up to enjoy the view on the way to lunch (if it
is "on-the-way" that is. Alan's sells maps . the best way to go to Kearsarge is head NORTH on corridor#11 from Alan's and exit the railbed at club junction #26 you will then be traveling thru JUNCTION numbers (in this order) 21,20,19,17,18,33, and 32 will be our last sign but the signage is good from there as you enter KTS system, if the trails are good it is about a 60-90 min ride each way (25 miles) from where you exited the rail bed

4. Lastly, Where can I get gas at? and would I need to get gas before or after Mt Kearsage if Kearsage is "on-the-way". TWO gas options off the railbed in Boscawen are both BETWEEN Alan's and junction 26 where you are exiting the bed one is to ride the shoulder of DEPOT st to Cumberland Farms DEPOT ST is by the PARKING lot on the bed.. or just a bit south is a sign for Dunkin Dounuts and Sunoco ,,,,,its a small blue services sign on the rail bed both a pretty easy access

We are riding an 07 600sdi and an 04 550 Suppersport fanner. Any help anyone can provide is appreciated. Thanks! ANOTHER easy gas option is in Andover turn off trail #2 at PIZZA CHEF ,,, they have a good size sign on the trail the gas is next oor to Pizza Chef hope this helps,

Kearsarge has two seperate sides to ride, the one I am directing you to is the tower side (Warner)

The directions I gave were for the Warner /Rollins State Park/ firetower side. Warner is a longer ride than if you go up the Sutton/Winslow State park side, if time is on your side and the trails are good I'd reccommend heading up the Boscawen to Warner side,, I am sorry to confuse but when you mentioned the fire tower i thought the Warner side was what you wanted, dunphy11 and I were both each talking opposite sides of the Mtn.

In your first post you said Alan's was 55 miles one way, which equalls 110 round trip,,, if you go to Kearsarge off rt 2 it is a "shorter ride maybe 11-12 miles one way,,,, the longer trip on the Warner side is a beautiful ride thru the Blackwater flood control. if as I said the trails a good it is about 20-25 milrs from Boscawen (one way) thus making you 110 mile trip a 150-160 mile trip,, not a unreasonable sum on good trails! If you go to the Sutton side (from Andover rt #2 it will give you about 135 ish for the day

If you want a history lesson on trails, ride w/ Dave. Just sit and listen.
Enjoy it while you can, now.

ride to Boscawen got cut short. Went out on Sunday from Boscawen...got about 25 miles into the ride when my 5-and-a-half year old was tired and wanted to head back. Stopped in Canaan (I believe) at a pizza place for lunch before returning to the truck. Had a great time with the little one as well as my wife and older daughter! Be back up in the area the week of 2/20- 2/25.
