There have been many meetings between representatives of both clubs starting in the middle of last summer and are still refining what promises to be a very special series of "old iron races". We launched into the series idea at the suggestion of a gentleman by the name of Harry Brown who had heard that Pittsburg was talking about a single race, and unilaterally talked with some Ski Bees. A meeting was called, well attended, and the fuse of optimism was lit, and continues gaining momentum every day. We have crossed the bridges of places to run the two events, refined rules, starting procedures, setting registration fees, track layouts, procuring race day liability insurance, porta pottys, sound systems, marker pylons, flags, advertising copy and posters, acquiring a major sponsor (finalized this week), lining up a source of hay bails, volunteers, tech inspectors, announcers, built a website dedicated to the series http://www.thegreatn...mobilerace.com/ ,secured permission from local police, secured a one day permit from Fish and Game to allow unregistered race participants to be unmolested, and book another date for further meetings.
This process has been a total exercise in cooperation between two clubs that normally "do there own thing" while respecting the neighboring club. All this is being done with enthusiasm that continues to amaze me and all who have been watching the process grow and prosper. I compliment all who have been involved in the process without complaint, and who are only interested in doing everything possible to insure its success to the mutual benefit of both clubs.
