Just trying to foster some discussion, maybe scare up a few new work party members...(for all clubs!)

I know the OVSC has several large projects to get done; The groomer barn, several large bridges, and the usual trail up-keep measures..

The more I see of these, the more I think it's the fastest most economical way to make trails...no brush left, no stumps, virtually no labor..
I don't know what these cost to hire in, but I think it's worth a look.

Pay particular attention to what it can do @ 7:50 in....

we need to have one! :good:

We have several project on the slate: 8 gates that HAVE to go up. Fix three or 4 bridges, one involves a lot of work and is 35' feet long. This one bridge and trail needs to to built up several feet to avoid the trail flooding every year. Does any one have a dump cart that can be towed by truck to bring material in. Or does any one know where one can be rented? And to top if off, a ton of work needs to be done on about 5 miles of Corr 22 from N. Wakefield road to the greenery. Just getting land owner permission and every thing GIA needs is a task in its self. I'm tired all ready and haven't even started. :drinks:

If my truck can fit, I'd haul for a day. I can take 4 yards if it's loaded to the back, more if there's a backhoe to remove some material from the front so the electric dump can lift it. It's not strong enough to lift what the dump body can hold...

That would be great! :drinks: I'll be putting in for an excavator for a week, along with yards of material. To be dropped off some what close to site then hauled in from there. ( New Holland E70 from Conway). What to you think about steal ibeams opposed to telephone poles? Ya I know cost, but is there any advantages and or disadvantages? :good:

I know the OVSC uses steel for any span over 20 feet...I think mostly for the "set it and forget it" nature of the steel...Helps if the steel truck can reach the spot, but the excavator should be able to do it if not..
Will you have a loader to load me so the excavator can be at the dump site?

Bridge work and replacement of some bridges as well and we are looking into working with BOT to clear up a section of old railroad bed that we currently detour around... A big thing that we are doing is FUNDRAISERS and trying to recruit new help!!! Busy Busy Busy as we volunteers know but we will get done what we can!!!

After 2 Brutal years of last second re-routes and 9 or 10 new bridges. The only thing on our plate is some trail widening, And a access bridge that the store owner will need to step up and help us with. Other than that I keep getting this crazy idea to build a huge bridge over a very unstable river, But I keep talking myself out of it.

Dave you should know better than most how blurry the line between Dedication and crazy is......To pull this one off, we would be bridging a river with no real bank definition,Semi swampy,And has a habit of running 3 to 6 feet higher at flood stage the at full pool. The only plus would be getting a trail off the road for 1,500 feet.

Here's a pic From last week.River is usually 20 feet wide here. This is the downstream side. The upstream side is really flooded.

Scott I have a line on several flat bed trailers,,,, 36" , 40' and 45' for under $2500 delivered,,,, could you overshoot the banks by a good margin, lay 2x2x4' cement blocks to built an "abutmant" on each side ,back away from the waters edge and then ramp up onto each end of the bridge? this would elevate the bottom of the bridge nearly 4' abouve the water,,,,,,,,,,, I think it could possibly work slick. A 40' deck over a 20' river leaves 10' each end inland from the waters edge.....

Raised ramps and overshooting the banks was exactly the direction I was looking Dave........Although I was thinking telephone poles that Could be sunk Deep enough to keep from floating away as piers for the raised deck. Gonna take a walk this weekend and look at it again....
