Maine has written reciprocity out of there snowmobile registration regulations and requires all non-residents to be registered in Maine except for the following specific cooperative trails:
B. A snowmobile registered in this State or in New Hampshire may be operated without further registration requirements on those portions of the Maine-New Hampshire Cooperative trails located in Maine. For purposes of this paragraph, “Maine-New Hampshire Cooperative trails” means:
1. New Hampshire Trail 18 as identified in the Success Pond - Grafton Notch area; and
2. Maine Trail ITS-80 as identified in the Evans Notch area of the White Mountain National Forest.
Regardess of what may or be may not have been stated by a Fish & Game officer, third party heresay claims are no defense if you are caught in Maine without the appropriate registration.

As a "former law enforcement officer" then you should be familiar with the term "hearsay". And all we have here is third or fourth hand accusations against a Fish & Game officer.
Additionally, as a "former" law enforcement officer then you should be aware of how to have confirmed the need for a registration before ever asking the question here.
But, if indeed the incident did occur as you are alleging then don't you think it wise that you contact Majot Tim Acerno at Fish & Game? Wouldn't it be much wiser to call the Major and correct the situation instead of just complaining about it here?
The Major can be reached by calling 603-271-3129. Let us know how you make out....

Historic north woods lodge, great food, nice people, nice sled ride there and back.
What's not to like?
Had dinner there one night last year, and breakfast twice. Great place

Unlike the above individual, I took the time to contact the Officer named and ask him what information he gives out during his portion of the Safety Class in reference to reciprocity, especially regarding Bosebuck & the State of Maine.
The Officer made it clear that Maine had intentionally removed the reciprocity clause with NH some time ago, and there no longer was reciprocity between Maine & NH except for the two clearly designated trails. He stated that he makes this clear during his presentation and further always instructs his students to contact the foreign State they will be riding in to get current and accurate information. He stated that when the Bosebuck question arose he told the class that they would have to check with the State of Maine, as he had no authority to answer questions about Maine regulations. However, he further stated that he knew a Maine registration was necessary to go from the NH border to Bosebuck in Maine. It was clear to me that this Officer has a clear and commanding knowledge of the reciprcoty issues surrounding Maine & NH.
Finally he offered that anyone that came away with different knowledge from that class was clearly confused, but he offered an apology if he in any way inadvertently contributed to the confusion. An officer & a gentleman!
Having to choose between an experienced Fish & Game Officer's version, and that of a anonymous newbie poster who attacks Fish & Game in the first 3 of his 4 posts, I'll go with Fish & Game every time.
Additionally, it only took a matter of minutes to look up and contact the Officer in question, and I salute him for his promptness in getting back to me and taking the time to explain the situation in detail.
Hopefully GSX'ER will "unconfuse" his wife and in the future become a positive influence here and in the snowmobiling community by taking the extra steps to fix or analyze a perceived problem instead of just pointing a finger. That's what separates someone from "law enforcement" from a "law enforcement professional".
Case closed....
almost forgot....the CAP LOCKS KEY is on the left side of your keyboard....in case you were confused....

Ya, we used them on our trip to Rangeley from NH for fuel and a quick bite. Reading the original posts about the confusion of going into ME with NH Reg, I just could not understand why there was such an attraction to Bosebuck for fuel or food when you have so many different options in NH. Unless your on a 2-stroke then you need to hit every gas source you can get

One of the other options closed last year and going into Youngs on the weekend mid-day is a circus full of bozo the clowns. I usually will start down in Errol and come up the east side of the PRR system to avoid going into town....thus the need to stop at Bosebuck.
