Sadly another individual has died on the trails, this time up here in Pittsburg.

According to THIS article in today's Union Leader. speed and alcohol likely were a factor.

Please, join a Club where you regularly ride...and when you see a Groomer Jar hopefully give what you can as every penny counts!

I knew someone who was on the trail at the time near there and reports are it was a pretty bad scene with the rescuers getting pretty upset with what the aftermath was like.

I know on this site we all are respectful of these machines and the trails but I would say help our fellow riders as much as we can to drive safely.

Just talked to a friend of mine from N. Dighton. The call turned somber, he had just found out that his friend Gary had died in a snowmobile accident yesterday. To all of you from the south shore, the Lopes name is very familiar, Gary is one of the Lopes from Lopes Construction. Thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family.

Why? Why? Why do people think it's ok to drink and ride? why not just wait until after your ride and at your cabin or room. People need to stop and think, is it worth your life for that one or two drinks ? what happen to "FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK" Come on people these are our friends and family dieing here...

My Condolense's to the Lope's Family & friend's...
I sit here Today, wishing I couild have made the trip to Easter Seal's weekend, with some riding freinds. Knowing how many more sled's would be there this weekend in Pittsburg, West Stewartstown and surrounding area... I prayed for a non-accident weekend for EVERYONE !!!
We have all seen this at one time or another .. before heading out from a local resturant / pub.... or from local rented cabin's or motel's ... early afternoon's or evenings. You come across many individual's whom are there for a relaxing, happy gathering of friends and family ... ( yes , maybe a drink or Two ). But, many don't realize that even that 1 drink or Two in "cold weather" affects each individual differently...

Pokker said it in the most Respectful & honest of opinion's... Wait till your done riding for the day. Sit back ,relax..enjoy each other's company longer into the late hour's...
I can't get over the fact...that when these situation's happen, it's very fortunate it hasn't been a head on with someone else.

I've always waited to get back from riding to crack open a beer. I try and get back before it gets dark and try to ride during the week (less traffic). It's a REAL SHAME for all these tragedies!!

I new Gary back in my partying days used to hang out at the local watering hole in Fall River, really nice guy the type that would help anyone out.Last I heard he had quit drinking so I'm kind of supprised about the alcohol.

Yes way too many accidents and deaths this year !
Expecially with the very low snow depths during the middle of riding season.
I could just imagine if the snow depths were like last Year how many MORE would there be :-(

We rode by the area where the accident happened, the wreath and flowers mark the spot. I can't even imagine the long ride home with one less person in the truck.

I am a subcontractor working for G.Lopes Construct. at the Salem Lowes project. I just found out today as I met for a project meeting at his site. I only knew him for a year but I felt he was a great guy, well liked and respected by all his employees and contractors. I am glad I met him and my deepest sympathy goes out to his family, friends and employees. RIP
