Lake Winni ice conditions Noon 12-31-2009
Don't even think about it yet... we're a ways off. Many bays and coves are frozen but with no takers (smart).
But there is good news with big changes in the last 24 hours. On Tuesday and Wednesday much of the Broads was still open with whitecaps . As of Thursday morning, much of the area of the Broads (usually the last area to freeze) has finally skimmed over between Belknap Point and Welch's Island and the Forty Islands area. The more open and eastward area towards Diamond Island near Samoset is still open. As long as the winds stay calm and the temps stay cold, we're going in the right direction.
Live webcam of that area is here: http://www.winnicam.com

Friday 1-1-2010... Winni is skimmed over, no wind, still cold temps. Ice is still thin but trending in the right direction. Unless we have a bigtime thaw, it looks like the big lake is going to continue to freeze over.
When will it be ready for sleds? Dunno but not now.

I've seen some bob houses out already, I don't think I'd go out there, some brave (or stupid?) people out there.
299 Miles so far this season

Solid ice coming soon? Fagettabout it... Some Winni areas were hit by wind on Saturday breaking up the thin skim layer of ice.
Just keep and eye here for changes...

How are the trails in the Gilford area right now? Planning on coming up this weekend and wondering if it is worth the trip?
Need more snow........You can ride, but expect open streams and thin cover in spots......Not sure if they have been out grooming or not.

Lake Winni Ice conditions 1-9-2010 12 noon
Not yet safe at least in the area of the Broads. The Lake seems to have finally frozen with more than a skim coat of ice so that is a very good sign. But we see no brave (dumb?) snowmobilers on this part of the lake, no bob houses, no walkers. This week is supposed to remain very cold so maybe next weekend but that is only a guess.
