from his cousin..................
Thank you all for your concern. The update on Darryl is that they attempted surgery and every time they laid him on his stomach, he had difficulty breathing. So unfortunately, they were unable to do surgery at all. They have to wait until his lungs stabilize. In the meantime, he has been intubated to assist his breathing.
So far, it seems that he has some sensation in his neck and arms. But from the the chest down, it's looking like he's paralyzed. But we won't know the extent of the injury until they can get him into surgery and see the damage.
I will keep you posted as I receive more information.

Thanks for posting that website "Triplepleasure" it was intresting to read from some of the riders comments.
I actually got to see this while speaking with the Cain's Quest Team from Maine. They were very concerned and got word from Darryl's Dad, that he had a severe neck injury & was being Medflighted to Boston minutes after it happened.
Like many Professional's these young men know the dangers of Freestyle riding, and practice continually to there best. Unfortunatley mishaps do happen and they try to correct with small adjustments BEFORE they think of bailing off the sled ... as Bailing could of have worse injuries ... Unfortunatley the sled flipped & landed square on his back when the ski's stuck in the slope grade with the lack of rotation angle.
Our Prayers are with you Darryl and your Family for a successful operation & speedy recovery...

Very terrible. Prayers to him and his family.
In the pic it doesn't look like he has any neck protection. Is that true?
Makes me rethink everything after my crash. Everyone gear up and all wear it all the time! I know this is a little different but you never know when it could be your last.

I have have been riding for over forty years and I still get launched every once in awhile.
Hope he comes out of it OK! Sounds like he took a heck of a hit from the tail of the sled when it rotated right onto him, after falling in front of it! Spinal related injuries are tough to deal with and all we can do is pray that he is young, tough and heals quickly..........
