Took our 06 Skandic SWT Grooming the other night and the headlight started cutting out (blinks now and again) and the speedometer doesn't light up sometimes... I have looked it all over checked for loose connections or bare wires, thinking maybe a short? but found nothing.

Went out again tonight and still the same thing, although I noticed tonight that it seems whenever i turn right the headlight will cut out, and it doesn't matter if its high or low beam, and also the speedo not lighting up is still not lighting up, or only stays lit here and there. Anyone have any ideas?

I was thinking a short somewhere but I didn't find one. Didn't know if there was a relay or something that maybe controls the "dash" and headlight any help would be great cause Im drawing a blank here...

If your noticing a difference while turning than look very closely at the wireing around the steering shaft. Any connector may be the culprit, check the ground wires as well, I believe they ground most stuff to the engine. Try wiggling every plug, even if it looks good.

My Ski Doo Rev was having a similar issue a couple years ago. I changed out a relay and have not had a problem since. I know there is info on what relay you can use over at dootalk.com. I bought my relay at Sanels auto parts, it was <$10.

I don't think it's a short, as it would cause ALL lights to dim. I'd look for an open somewhere.

Yeah I'm not sure... I'm kinda dumb founded at the moment. Groomed tonight and happen to notice the trail light goes out with the headlight, and the speedometer didn't light up once tonight

If you can get to the regulator, measure the voltage out of it with it running. If it's intermittant there, measure the voltage OUT of the motor (30-40VAC). If it's intermittant there too, it's probably the lighting coil on the stator.

Actually have thought about the lighting coil... I havent tested it yet. Is the reverse beacon powered by the lighting coil too I wonder? cause i found out tonight that it doesn't "beep" if the headlight/trail light goes out

Yes, all electrical accessories are powered off that coil.
