MINE crapped out dec 26th! The grip is most likely bad, and is real easy to change.
Mine just went on my girl's 04 GSX. We replaced it, then the battery died. Bought a new battery, that one died too. Learned that whenever we had the warmers on, the battery became weak as if a major draw was affecting the battery. Shut the sled down and there wouldnt be enough juice to start the sled electrically. Shut the warmers down, pull the backup recoil start, run it for a while, battery would charge back up. Confusing when your battery dies the more you run the sled! However, come to find out after tearing apart the whole wiring harness to look for a bad ground, it was the stator which had gone bad and couldnt keep up the charging system when under warmer load during run time. Oh the things that can happen!
New Battery - $100
New Stator - $335
Labor to install new stator - $150
Realizing your ski-doo is broken down on the first mile of the season and towing it home with your brand new Yamaha with 4 miles on the odometer? Priceless.

your handwarmer will still work if the stator is junk atleast for a little while. The power from the battery will provide the warmers with juice although it will drain the battery over time. Usually a bad stator is seen when lights are dim and when a load is put on the battery during run time, the stator cant keep up with the demand and the battyery goes weak. I found that I could use electric start and ride without turning my handwarmers on with a bad stator, however as soon as i used the warmer, dead bat.
