Just picked up some more of my only splurge in life...real maple syrup!
17.99 for 32 ounces!....50 cents an ounce Mclures.

Yikes has the price gone way up!

Seems real maple syrup has become popular with the hoi paloi.

My neighbors make maple syrup and I can't beleave how much effort goes into it for such a small return. I think it takes 5 gallons of sap to make one quart of syrup.

There was also a good article in the Portland Press Herald on how syrup has doubled in 2 years. It is indeed tedious work. I make my own.

I buy the real stuff and won't have it any other way. The real syrup makes a world of difference. We make pancakes for the kids on Sunday mornings and I couldn't see ruining them with brown corn syrup. I have to pour for them though b/c don't want to waste at those prices.

I guess that's about right. They have 32 oz. jugs at Costco that my wife buys. Everyone has their vices and I guess that's one of mine.

I suggest buying your supply in the spring from a working sap house...you'll prolly get it cheaper, and the experience is worth the effort.

I do OT but my years supply (1 gallon) was compromised by the enemy (Polaris Crew) that came for breakfast a few times in Rangeley.
I needed to replenish and was shocked at how much the price went up.

I paid $32 dollars three weeks ago for a gallon. I have been buying it from the same guy since 1984 in Northern, VT. I go through 2 gallons a year.

Try it in your coffee or make some dohnuts with it. :good:
