Well its like this.............

We had about 100 machines show up to compete! Last year 24 machines!
We had 30 people to compete in the 295 single class, split into three seven lap heats!
We had ten guys from the Turner Maine area show up with very respectable one lungers, who had such a bad time they took one of our Monster Energy Drink series poster back to Maine to help promote the rest of the series. (very nice guys, liked our format)
There was many more people over last years race. I don't have the exact figure yet but think we at least doubled last years respectable 500.
We sold a respectable number of raffle tickets on our 72 Moto Ski Grand Prix 440!
The weather was perfect, sunny, cool, no wind.
Things went off on time!
Some old half dead guy on a '73 Nitro 295 twin came in fourth in the qualifying heat, and then won the 295 twin final event, (25 laps) pulled into the pits, took a three minute breather, lined up again with that same 295 and won the 340 twin class in the best race of the day with twenty lead changes, spills, roll overs, the last eight laps banging it out with local Kevin Lassonde on a 340 ss Polaris Colt.

It couldn't have been a better day for me, the club and the sport. It just all went well, everyone had a good time and I'm almost afraid to think of what the Colebrook Race on February 7 will draw with the Easter Seals Ride at the Balsams that weekend. It is shaping up to be huge!

Other than that it was a pretty boring day........... :yahoo:

Pics to follow soon!

Sounds like a great time had by all. :drinks: I see you guys added a fourth date at the Balsams in April....the series is growing. That's good b/c they should be able to stockpile some snow for you guys? :good:

If their stockpile of snow is lean at that time they have mentioned their capability of "Making snow if we need it. The Balsams event will be a different format with a closed course event like we have been doing, a vintage hill climb and perhaps a (shallow) water cross event. We are also thinking about simplifying classes to 0 to 340 and 341 and up and allowing newer than '73's to compete. that should get a lot more people to be able to dust off their own little used old iron in a more friendly weather condition. April 4th should be mid 50's during the day which should also make it a lot more tolerable for the average spectator.

Opening up for 'newer' sleds makes it a little easier to find available sleds too. Even an extra year or two seems to open up the available inventory.

Discussions about expanding the to the newer sleds was only for the Balsams event, we don't want to jeopardize the successful format we have in place for the series. In 74, 75 almost everything went ballistic in evolution of fast motors with liquids, reed valves, free airs etc. If we included them we would lose the "beauty" and economy of the '73 and older stuff. If you want to find them, they are out there in huge numbers if you keep your eyes open. At one time I had an embarrassing number of vintage projects that approached twenty, mostly Cats.

Perhaps with each passing year a newer model year sled becomes availiable to race. Let say you have to use sleds that are 35 years old or older. So that means that anything model year 1974 or older is good to go for this season. This may be a way to go.
