Almost missed this one, a 48 year old went through the ice on the Madbury reservoir late Friday night. Story can be read HERE at the on-line edition of Foster's Daily Democrat....

I grew up going right to that spot to fish with my dad. I was waiting for someone else to state the obvious, you did it very eloquently!

Let's see....Friday night, well after 10:00 PM, incredibly stupid move, went home and never reported the incident.

Hmmmmmm.......... :drinks:

Many winters that spot doesn't even freeze over, so I'm sure what ice is there is very thin.

A portion of Route 9 was closed for about three hours while officials removed the snow mobile from the water

What do you suppose that is going to cost him?

I am sure it will be expensive. The reservoir where he abandoned his sled is the active drinking water supply for the City of Portsmouth. They are very sensitive about any possible contamination sources, however small. In the past others have been fined and assessed heavy recovery fees for similar incidents.
