Last Saturday took a nice ride out to the Chimney and also a cruise out to Foss Mountain Road. The gate is still locked but we saw a short distance away old tracks where a group of sleds had cut through an opening up through the fields and towards the top anyway.

My understanding is the area up there is still closed to sleds....has there been any changes? :dunno:

Thanks....

It must not be I read a thread in HCS from freedom rider and his friends "cross country culture clash" and it says they were up there with sleds when some cc skiers came up. :unknw:

Well, that would explain the tracks....perhaps Tim can provide some insight next time he checks in.

They closed access to the top of Foss, it's a great snowshoe hike, and of course Freetorideanywhere broke trail up there for water and snacks. A couple of us also joined burnt meadow in Maine and will be planning a connector trail somewhere down the road.

Thanks Tim, that confirmed my suspicions.

Hey, that connector trail sounds fantastic...would be nice to have another destination out there to plan a trip around.

Man, you guys are some busy...looking forward to meeting everyone Saturday! :good:

TIM, burnt meadow ?? is that a club that links with your trails, ended up at the junction by the chimney about a month ago but didn't know where we would end up, didn't know how far to go without finding gas.

Is that the gate that says something about blueberry picking? Any idea how to access Maine's trails from there? I continued on and ended up on roads.

Yep.

The area up there contains large bluberry fields, I believe one of the reasons the area was shut down was do to individuals in the past boondocking across those same fields. The tracks we saw utilized an old cow path several hundred yards before the gate, and went right up across the same fields that got the area shut down in the first place.

Some people just plain don't care what their selfish actions do to the rest of the snowmobile community. Unfortunately that will never change.

I do believe the access they are talking about to the Maine trails will be off that same area, as the Maine border (Brownfield) is less than 3 miles away to the east at that point. It would be a pretty neat accomplishment!

No wonder the cross country skiers were giving freedom rider and mr. snowmobile and friends a hard time. These guys have been posting to everyone else about not going off trail, is that do as i say not as I do?

Ok, I can't leave this alone any longer. I'm sure those aren't our tracks. It was about 4 weeks ago we were in that area. ASnd how many thaws and storms have you guys had since then? We were on a trail thats alegedly always been a trail. And the only reason we even went up thatway was due to a post that Tim made in Scrutinizer's tread back in I believe late December or early January over on HCS that it was a "boondocking" trail but on the clubs trail system or roster. Do a search over on HCS for Foss Mt., you'll find the post.

"It's pretty much a boondock trail but still a system trail. We try to keep something for everyone. That side of 153 is being groomed today as we speak. "

You are right, it is a boondock trail from junctionx to the gate posted no snowmobiling. I haven't been up there in a long time. There are also some guys from Maine that ride up there all the time. Who made the tracks doesn't matter we can't loose a trail we already lost.

And the main trail is a class VI, right?

And I agree it doesn't matter who made the tracks Tim. And I agree with your post and support your stand on the matter. I was just trying to defend our group against Skip's and now Toolman's accusations that me or Freedom Rider and the rest of the group, did nothing wrong, at the time. If I'm not mistaken up until recently the area we were in was on SOS's website as an unmaintained club trail. No one seemed to have a problem with it back in Jan when Jeff's post was made on our ride in the area or back in December when Andy made his post on his ride. I feel there are people in this thread that have some sort of vendetta out for several of us and personally, I'm not going to take it. I've been snowmobiling in NH for 40+ years, have done more than my share of time in the NHSA upper eschelon, am President of two clubs, am a safety instructor for NHF&G and also a trail administrator for my club and forum administrator for another. So I don't need someone trying to smear my name in the mud for no reason other than some petty vendetta.

Lets see how long this thread stays alive. If any of the Admins or moderators have a probelm with my post, please PM me. I'm just defending myself and others wrongly accused.

you are correct, those aren't your tracks they were fresh from that day when I was there sunday. Someone had also broke trail right around the gate. I continued on that road past a b+b, and came to its end in a bit of a downtown where the tracks took a left on another road. I turned around there cause I was sick of road ridin. I think the town was called Eaton.

For the record I don't know anyone here except Tim. I repeated what I read on here in other posts, Not accusations. I didn't know if you could ride there or not, we groomed to young's hill rd the other night and that's as far as I have been I don't like going too far on roads because of wear and tear. How could I have a vandetta with someone I don't know? I love the trails in our area and don't want to lose them. The problem I do have is the boondocking all over the 153 area. One of the culrits has been identified but he's not the only one. :sorry:

Thank you for the clarification. I was just referring to the "do as I say, not as I do" comment.
You're not the one I was referring to as to a personal vendetta. I and others that I was riding with that day have been harrassed and threatened by others.
I have only been to that area riding two weekends in many years. I love the trails in that area and will continue to ride. I'll probably end up joining one of the clubs, just haven't decided which one as of yet. Matter of fact my club has organized a club ride up that way on Saturday to support SOS's function. Should be about 20 of us.
And for Tim andToolman anything I can do to help out your clubs situation of illegal riding, I'd be more than happy to do what I can.

Snowmobiling has enough people trying to stop us, that's a problem, but a bigger problem is the constant bickering amongst snowmobilers. We all know right from wrong, or at least most of us. but people constantly try to defend their pipes or off trailing or anything else they can think of that in the end is wrong. The clubs need each other to stay focused on the trails, we don't own the trails they kind of own us. If we want our kids to be able to ride we all need to think to the future and come up with ideas to fend off the other groups that want us gone. We need to crack down on problems within ourselves and move on. Maybe hunting cameras on problem areas, how about electric sleds for the tree huggers,(I'm gonna catch some crap for that one) anyway you all know what I mean. Hopefully Saturday's winter carnival will be a big hit and it can bring everyone together, and when its done we can all have a beer. :drinks:
